Main St. for the upcoming Santa's Work- shop Arts and Crafts Festival being held at Tyson Wells Showgrounds on November 28 and 29. The fes- tival still has some spaces indoors available, and lots of outdoor spac- es are also open. All participants must have only handcrafted items that they have made, no kits or supplies (vendors) allowed. You must supply your own tables and chairs, and spaces are either 10 x 10 or 12 x 8 depending on where they are located. Outdoor spaces can be bigger if needed. The cost of the festival for craft- ers participating is only $25.00 for the two day show. You will be able to come on Friday afternoon before the weekend of the show to set up ahead of time if you wish, or you can set up Saturday morning of the first day of the show--doors will be open to the public at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Applications are also ready for the annual Christmas Electric Light Parade that will be held on Decem- ber 12 starting at 7 p.m. The parade will line up on Mesquite St. again this year, and go east on Main St. to Plymouth Rd. and north on Plym- outh to the Town Hall for the tree lighting and trophies awarded. Refreshments will also be served at Town Hall after the parade. Ev- eryone is welcome to be a part of this wonderful event by participat- ing and putting in a lighted entry-- float, vehicle, bicycle, ATV--all are welcome!! Trophies will be awarded for Best Overall, Best Lit, Best Business, Best Non-Profit, Best Youth Group, Best Church Group, Best ATV Group and Best ATV Individual. So get your friends together and light up the night by being one of the fun entries for the parade!! Food Bank fundraiser planned Nov. 22 When in Quartzsite, one of the things you may note is that there are many "fundraisers." During the summer months there are fund- raisers because this is a tight knit community and during the winter there are even more. "Snowbirds" by the hundreds flock to Quartzsite to have fun and escape the cold of their "other" residence. They appreciate the camaraderie of the town's inhabitants and feel a need to support the community, especially to aid its less fortunate citizens. The community has sys- tems set up to provide aid but it all costs money, and by having these fundraisers, we are able to assist in providing a few extras in the way of food, clothes, school supplies, etc, to the organizations and the people they serve. There are various service clubs, businesses, non-profits, and orga- nizations that provide assistance, among which the churches play a tremendous role. The Food Bank is but one of these local organiza- tions. It receives support from the Federal Government through St. Mary's Alliance and by collecting canned goods and funds from the general public. There is also anoth- er, independent organization that supports the Food Bank and that is The Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank (FQFB). It is a legitimate non-profit (5O1c3) set up to re- ceive money earmarked specifically and only for the Quartzsite Food Bank. This non-profit also holds periodic fundraisers. The first fundraiser of the season for the Food Bank by the FQFB will be a Chili/Cornbread dinner. It will be held at the Tyson Wells building, generously donated by Kim Scott, on Kuehn and Hwy 95 from 3pm to 6pm, on November 22nd, 2015 with chefs Lyle and Ma- ria Race preparing the meal. Some people reading this may not be aware that Lyle and Maria are a prime example of very active supporters of the Food Bank. Most of the winter season you can find them in their mobile kitchen, called the Lone Steer Cafe, located across the parking lot just west of KB Tools on Kuehn. They have a great menu of delicious food, but on special occasions, and to our great fortune, they donate their time, expertise and even goods to help us make 2 of our fundraisers a success. Last year the Food Bank hosted the Chili/Cornbread meal, while the FQFB hosted the Soup and Chowder Festival, and the Roast Beef Extravaganza Of the 3, Lyle and Maria participated in the first and the last, as they had their own business to contend with during the very busy middle of the season. (This year, all Food Bank fundrais- ing will go through the FQFB to insure the funds raised aid only the Quartzsite Food Bank.) So, check your calendars, the Quartzsite Calendar of Events ( http://quartzsitecalendar.com), the Desert Messenger, and bulletin boards around town.
