S P ECI A L PROMOTIONA L S ECTION Methodist University Announces the Inauguration of Its Fourth President en E. Hancock Jr., was sworn in as the fourth president of Methodist Universi- ty Friday, March 23, 2012. The Inaugura- tion and Investiture ceremony began at 2 B pm in Reeves Auditorium, and included a formal procession of trustees, distin- guished guests, faculty and staff, with a reception following the ceremony. Pre-ceremony events included an Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium and Inauguration Showcase in the upper level of Berns Student Cent- er from 10 am to noon, with additional undergraduate research presentations at designated areas around the Methodist University campus. Undergraduate re- search and creativity was the subject of one of the four task forces that President Hancock announced in the fall as part of the new "Methodist University Journey" initiative. The Inauguration Showcase, which was open to the public, featured additional campus initiatives and pro- grams, and focused on the Center for Student Success and the work of the Community Engagement, Globalization and Leadership Task Forces. The "Meth- odist University Journey" focuses on in- creasing opportunities for students to be engaged inside and outside of the class- room, fulfilling the institution's motto to engage, enrich and empower its students and community. Dr. Hancock has been president of Methodist University since March 2011. He succeeded Dr. M. Elton Hendricks, who retired aſter serving as president of the University for 27 years. The Presi- dential Inauguration formally installed the new president, and was an opportu- nity to celebrate Methodist University in a way that has not happened in over a quarter of a century.
