FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The retirees have fished twice since I last reported. The first was on Lake Wylie with the Tommy Wess and James Haynes showdown. The Lawndale twins, as they are also known as, brought in 13.70 and had the big fish of the day with a 4.0 largemouth. Dean Champion and Fred Wright had 10.70 and were second, with Tony Black and Ned Blanton rounding out the top three with 9.95. Last week it was Lake Norman and David O'Shield along with JR Henry got the win with 8.15. J.R. Garland had 7.85 to claim second place and Fred Wright and Ken Johnson tied for third with Tom Mayhew and John Rankin as both teams brought in 7.65. Ronnie Humphries had the big bass of the day with a 3.0 largemouth. Bass Casters The Bass Casters fished Lake Hickory this past weekend and as has been for the last few years in the spring, Mark Swink just totally kicked butt. Swink brought in 15.8 and had big fish with a 4.8 largemouth. Terry Knight had 11.10 and was second, followed by Mitch McCracken with 7.4. Jonse Good had 5.0 and settled in fourth and rounding out the top five as John Brown with 4.10. The Bass Casters will fish Lake James on April 15 from 7am, til 3pm. This week it is back to Lake Wylie and with the conditions as they are it should be a good one. Moss The weekly Moss Lake Thursday night tournaments started last week with 22 boats blasting off. Brian and Cody Hoyle got the win with 13.40. Chris Carroll and Earl Mase had 12.0 and were second with Johnny Guffey and Donnie Walker taking third place with 10.0. Walt Brysick and Eric Hicks had 7.0 and were fourth and rounding out the top five was Charles Bridges and Gerald Briggs with 5.54. Big bass of the evening was a 3.64 large- mouth brought in by Joel White and Randy Copp. The weekly events run every Thursday starting at 6 and weighing in at 9:30. Maintained lead works where the lead at the target is known and is used consistently on the skeet field. In this method, you start your shotgun barrel ahead of the target and swing consistently at the speed of the target to the breakpoint where the shot is triggered. Pull away is effective on many long crossing targets. In this method, the shooter inserts his barrel at the nose or just ahead of the target and gently pulls away from the target to the desired lead. In the Pull through method, the shooter inserts his barrel behind the target and accelerates through the target triggering the shot at the beak or front of the target. And even though I longed to leave in my high school years, there was some- thing that drew me back to the humble surroundings of my country way of liv- ing. It's not always easy balancing this lifestyle with progress. It almost doesn't seem right to want a rustic log cabin with a microwave. I want cows and dogs but a big screen T.V. would be nice as well. And I'm sure that even though my wife wants a clothes line in the back yard, she sure couldn't do without her heavy duty washer and dryer. I want a garden, but I'd sure rather plow it with a new John Deere rather than an old mule. One of the things that is especially troubling to me is the loss of much of our hunting land. Where there used to be deer and ducks, now there are malls and mansions. Where there used to be the sycamore and sassafras, now there are subdivisions. It's all in the name of progress. I think everyone ought to ex- perience the joy and peace of country living. I just don't want them to enjoy it so much that they buy my hunting lease, ...get out & enjoy nature! Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ build their retirement home, and turn my property into an animal sanctuary. But the fact is I can't have it both ways. I can't fuss about my dirt road without knowing that pavement is going to bring people. And I can't fuss about not having city conveniences without having the city. Many churches today struggle with this same dilemma. They want people without progress. They want big build- ings without big budgets. And they want "sinners" without sin. They've forgotten the invitation to come "Just as I am", but instead have ask folks to come "just as they would like to be, one day." They've forgotten that we are not to come to the Lord clean, but we are to come to Him and let Him clean us up. They've forgot- ten that Jesus was a friend of sinners. So if you and I want others to expe- rience our life in the Lord, remember that you're going to have to move over. You're going to have to bring them in as they are. And you might just have to give them your parking space and your pew. www outdoor ruths.or Utility plus economy The John Deere 5D and 5E Series is where utility meets economy. You get all of the design, engineering and quality that make a Deere a Deere – at a lower price than you might expect. But we didn't stop there. Right now, you can also take advantage of big cash back offers and special nancing. www..outdoorttruths.org Outdoor Truths ©Community First Media ©CommunityFirstMedia ES FREE TIM A TES Bruceu e Camp's Local
