Betty has been busy pricing items as they come in and having plenty of sales throughout the day. She works every Wednesday and is currently preparing for the big winter items bag sale and to soon be accepting spring and summer items. We also wish to thank Betty for all of her help with the winter flea market and for getting all our items priced and set up. Thank you Betty Sherrer for being so reliable and dependable. You are such a good hard worker and you always do a great job! A Special Thanks To Betty Sherrer! 2012 Senior Games Kickoff – A Huge Success The 2012 Senior Games Kickoff held on Thursday, February 16th was a huge success! With 30 vibrant participants in attendance, excitement and energy filled the room as games such as Cornhole, Putt Putt, and the Softball Toss were played and enjoyed. Coleman Hunt, Cleveland County Schools Administrator and Gardner Webb University Hall of Fame Inductee was the Guest Speaker. Mr. Hunt was an inspiration to all senior participants as he encouraged them to stay active and involved with Senior Games in an effort to feel good and preserve their quality of life, which he described as a precious gift. Cleveland County Senior Games Let the Games Begin! April 16 – 20, 2012 The Council on Aging/Senior Center will sponsor the 27th Cleveland County Senior Games, April 16-20, 2012. Cleveland County Senior Games is a part of the North Carolina Senior Games, which are held throughout our state. Senior Adults, age 55 (by December 31, 2012) and above in Cleveland County are eligible to participate in these games. Local medal winners (golf- ers must meet minimum performance scores to compete at the State Finals) are eligible to qualify for the State Games. The State Finals will be held in Raleigh, September 24- 28, 2012. Gardner-Webb University is the host for opening ceremonies on Monday, April 16th at 9:00 a.m. with many track and field events to follow. The closing-awards ceremonies will be held at the Neal Senior Center on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. The series of athletic/recreational events will be held throughout Cleveland and Gaston Counties at the following locations: Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, Gardner-Webb University, Crest High School, Kings Mountain High School, Dover YMCA, Riverbend Golf Course, Challenger III Amusement Park, Shelby City Park and AMF Gastonia Lanes. Join the friendly competition and choose from indoor and outdoor activities. Remember the F words: Fun, Family, Fellowship and Fitness are the key components of Senior Games. Cleveland County's Senior Games motto is "Fitness for the Fun of It!
