A PublicAtion of the KAnsAs betA chAPter of sigmA AlPhA ePsilon fAll 2015 The lion's lore Positive MoMentuM Continues at Kansas Beta I am pleased to report that the actives are providing strong leadership and the chapter continues on the upswing. For the fall 2015 semester, the chapter house is full with 55 men living in. See the list of 19 new members on page 2. The men are taking the academic side of their college experience seriously. The house is in good physical condition and the chapter budget is in solid shape. Please read the chapter update by Daniel Vasquez '17 on page 2. We were pleased to host more than 200 parents and alumni on Family Day at the chapter house on Saturday, September 19. Barb Podschun, our housemother who recently retired, was recognized for her 17 years of service. Monica Strathman, our new housemother who joined in August, was welcomed to Kansas Beta. Please see pages 3 and 4 for spotlights on both Barb and Monica. Summer Internship and Alumni Relations Program The summer internship and alumni relations program officially launched this fall, beginning with move-in day! Members and their families had the opportunity to learn about the different ways SAE is committed to the success of all members from the first day on campus and into the larger world beyond the college walls. The parents of the new members were extremely pleased with Kansas Beta's ability to provide access to alumni who are centers of influence. The goal of the program is twofold. The first objective is to encourage undergraduate members to begin networking with alumni at a very early stage. The second is to provide Kansas Beta alumni with an opportunity to directly network with undergraduates who are interested in a similar career path. Undergraduate members who are interested in the program will receive assistance with résumé creation and networking skills. They will also be provided with opportunities to discuss their career paths with SAE alumni who have been successful in the student's area of interest. We plan to use this as a springboard into summer internships and actual employment as well. Recruitment Recommendations Recruitment continues to be the critical lifeblood of the chapter. If you are aware of any potential new members, please contact me or Recruitment Chairman Sean Maxwell '18 at maxwellsean95@gmail.com. Annual Giving Campaign We initiated an annual giving campaign in 2014 for the ongoing chapter needs. I was pleased with the response to our initial year—raising more than $30,000. Our new annual giving campaign goal is to raise at least $35,000 by December 31, 2015. We have raised $12,650 so far. Please be generous in the next mailing that you will receive in early to mid-November. I promise you the money is carefully managed and invested in the future of Kansas Beta—which is bright. Yours in the Bonds, Steve Lacy '76, '77 House Corporation President steve.lacy@meredith.com • (515) 284-3895 Summer InternShIp and alumnI relatIonS program In Full SwIng More than 200 parents and alumni came to Family Day on September 19 at the chapter house.
