Your Stewardship in Action THE DELTA CENTENNIAL FUND CAMPAIGN In 2002, Delta embarked on a capital campaign designed to address the housing issues of our nearly 100-year-old home—more than $1.8 million was committed by 328 dedicated Delta brothers and families. The money raised during The Delta Centennial Fund Campaign was used to address many critical needs at the time. To upgrade the exterior, we resurfaced the roof, tuck-pointed the brick, updated the garden landscaping, and cleaned the façade. Interior maintenance and improvements included adding an electrical conduit to connect to the University's power grid, renovating the basement and first floor bathrooms, removing the existing steam heating system and adding a new system with an air-conditioning option, making the first floor wheelchair accessible, and restoring the lead-paned windows and bedroom doors. ONGOING FACILITY MANAGEMENT Following the improvements made in the early 2000s, the Delta Alumni Association has continued to preserve and maintain the Hall to the best of its ability through members' dues, alumni support, and the remaining funds from the Centennial Fund Campaign. The DAA has enhanced its oversight and communications with the undergraduate brotherhood. The DAA revamped the house meal program to a much improved food and beverage operation complete with a new chef, proper storage and inventory management. In the dining room, the brotherhood replaced the plastic seating and round tables with custom oak long dining room tables and benches. This improved seating arrangement and food service delivered fast results as more brothers are on the meal plan today than ever before, resulting in a greater sense of community and camaraderie around the house. The brotherhood has also installed discrete security cameras outside of the house, which has dramatically reduced theft and break-ins. On the lighter side, the house has also received donations for a "new" 1896 Steinway, a backgammon table, digitizing and reframing all of the composites, restoring the front door and gates, and a refinishing of the billiards table. In other prominent places, the DAA has renovated the library into a space where brothers actually read and study! The alumni have also recently renovated the Bright room into a beautiful common room full of Hall history and memorabilia. In addition to the physical work, the board also hired a new manager and chef, increased class sizes by roughly 18% (back to the numbers of the 1960s), improved our collections rate from 60% to 99% (implementing graduate payment plans for special cases), and completely overhauled our vendor list, accounting and budget. The Hall is now running at a 100% occupancy rate for the first time in 10 years, damages are down, and the quality of membership is up along with morale. Momentum is strong on both the undergraduate and graduate level and we hope to take advantage of it in order to secure the future for the Hall and our brotherhood. While many improvements have been made in the last 15 years, it is again time to make a meaningful investment in our nearly 110-year-old home. The aim of The Delta Campaign is to provide our undergraduate brothers a living and learning environment that rivals any on campus—one that honors and maintains our rich traditions while serving as a proud symbol of our brotherhood. The plans highlighted in this brochure help illustrate and explain our vision, which puts special emphasis on the historical significance and preservation of our grand old building.
