Main St. Quartzsite Open Tues. thru Sat. 9-3 928-927-4223 By Joanne Winer One of the most popular events in Quartzsite over the past few years has been the every other Saturday night Cruise In that was held at the former Shell Station on the corner of Main St. and N. Central Blvd. This has been such a great time for everyone who brings their "toys" out to show everyone, and to families and other enthusiasts who love to see the restorations of some of these old vehicles. Organizers of the event, Paul and Tony Carnevale, came up with the idea of this get together as a way to get people out of their homes on a Saturday night when not much else was going on dur- ing the hot summer nights. What started out as an idea for one sum- mer ended up being a full year's event, with enthusiasts bringing all kinds of vehicles to the station to show them off. These include hot rods, rat rods, antique, classic and vintage vehicles, and custom restorations as well. They've even had motorcycles, tractors and oth- er vintage vehicles show up as well, and everyone loved coming out to see them all. The event got so popular that it outgrew the station, and after looking for a new venue to hold it, the VFW Post 769 voted to have it at the new post building and park- ing lot next to Palm Plaza on Cen- tral Blvd at the corner of No Name St. (formerly the Palo Verde Café.) The new post opened last April and has become a wonderful ad- dition to the town, with a lot more room than the old one and a much better location. Volunteers from the Post spent countless hours getting the building ready for opening, and it is now a very busy place again. The Cruise Ins are still going to be held twice a month, the second and fourth Saturdays, at 5 p.m. Now in its 5th year, this is one of the most prolific commu- nity free events that goes on all year long. Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy a great evening with some food and beverages available right there at the Post and lots of great vehicles to see and talk about with their owners. It's a great way to spend a Saturday night when noth- ing else is going on and you get to meet some wonderful people for great fun and good conversation. And its free!! For the first Cruise held at the Post on October 24, KBUX Radio 94.3FM will be play- ing some great oldies through some speakers, so come on out for some great friendship and music!!! Don't forget--if its old and still has wheels, its more than welcome to partici- pate!!! Or just come and have a great time looking and talking!! Don Day's "The Grinch" entry is very popular with everyone
