The ohio state university page 3 Lend Your Expertise to the Building Committee T he Delt House Corporation is in the process of determining the final building plans for the renovation and expansion of the Shelter and invite all interested alumni to participate in a building committee that will help with making the Shelter the best fraternity facility on The Ohio State University campus. If you have building experience or are interested in attending two or three one-hour meetings by phone and internet, please contact Buck Byrne '66, building chairman and campaign co-chairman, at buck@buckbyrne.com. Currently, Bill Rudolph '82, Kyle Huff '07, Matt Anderson '07, Jim Bruno '17, Matt Vekasy '90, Britt Wadsworth '80, Jeff Pelletier '06, Matt Kozlowski, Alpha '03, and Logan Minard '16 join Buck on the committee. Jim also chairs the undergraduate building subcommittee comprised of Logan, Sam Aprile '17, Pompeo Mazzella '17, Ben Eddingfield '18, and advisor Jeff Pelletier. Our next meeting will be in late December and we will have an additional meeting in April before construction begins May 1, 2016. Please let us know if you are interested as soon as possible as we will move forward with plans quickly. T om Workman '66 joined Delta Tau Delta because his older sister, an AGD at Ohio State, told him that the Delts were the best fraternity on campus. Tom says that Beta Phi's success during his undergraduate years was fueled by having high-quality young men from great families. Entertaining moments with brothers such as recruitment parties at Darby Dan Farm, 500 baby chicks in the hallways as part of a pledge ditch, iguana feeding time, and many other enjoyable moments stand out in Tom's mind. Tom still holds a great deal of gratitude for his brothers' support of his student political activities. "Without my loyal Beta Phi brothers, I would not have been elected president of Student Senate, an experience that opened many doors for me," Tom explains. "Delta Tau Delta provided me with a foundation of brotherhood and values that have remained strengths throughout my life." As a result of the Delt support, brotherhood, and loyalty, Tom has decided to support the Beta Phi: Doorway of Opportunity campaign. "Buck Byrne '66 is a good salesman— he reminded me what Beta Phi has meant to me over the years," Tom says. He hopes that his contribution, along with that of other brothers, will provide many more young men the opportunity to have similar Beta Phi experiences well into the future. "As Coach Hayes always said, 'I want to pay forward,'" Tom explains. Tom is the president and CEO of the Life Insurance Council of New York, where he represents the life insurance industry before the New York legislature and the New York insurance regulatory agency. He and his wife, Pamela, a KKG at Ohio State, have two children, Chris and Sarah, and five grandchildren: Massimo, Lilia, Quintino, Vivia, and Eleanor. Tom's primary interest outside of his job is his work to preserve our liberty in America. He reads good books, especially biographies, enjoys traveling, and likes to drive his red '62 Corvette! E-mail: tworkman@licony.org project a reality. We have set a goal of raising $2 million to expand, renovate, and update the Shelter. We urge your thoughtful consideration of this project and what it means for the future of Beta Phi. Our past campaign resulted in participation from 20 percent of our brotherhood. The Beta Phi: Doorway of Opportunity campaign has already raised more funds than our previous campaign; however, only three percent of our brotherhood has participated so far. In the coming weeks, you will receive additional information detailing the project and sharing how you can join your brothers to prepare the Shelter at 67 East 15th Avenue for its next 60 years.
