ALPHA NU's Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi at The University of Texas H Fall 2015 Founded in 1884 T he Chapter is in full swing with classes well under way, and the pledge class of 47 outstanding young men are beginning their journey to brotherhood in Sigma Chi. Brother Cam McGuire '16 is the Magister and has a full staff of able brothers to assist him in the daunting task of teaching the pledges to become fully prepared for brotherhood in Sigma Chi and the Alpha Nu Chapter. 2015 Fight Night Announced The undergraduate Chapter invites all alumni to stop by the Chapter House anytime this fall to visit, meet the pledges, or to just say "hello." The annual Fight Night is scheduled for Friday, November 6, along with a home game on Saturday against the University of Kansas. Watch your e-mail and follow us on social media for news on how to get VIP seats at this year's Fight Night event. Chapter Awards The Chapter returned from this summer's Balfour Leadership Training Workshop in Bowling Green, Ohio, loaded down with awards and accolades. These awards included the Peterson Significant Chapter Award, Risk Management Award Honorable Mention, Outstanding Parents' Club Award, Outstanding House Corporation Award, and, to top it all off, the coveted Charles G. Ross Publication Award. We are now recognized as having the top Chapter publication in the Fraternity this year, an honor Alpha Nu previously won in 1959. I am very proud of all the hard work that continues to go into keeping Alpha Nu Chapter number one in Sigma Chi. Alumni Update I also wanted to update alumni on Brother Audrey Freeman '84, who recently suffered a minor stroke. He is recovering in the HealthSouth facility off Red River and 13th Street, and will more than likely transfer to an assisted living facility in Austin soon. Keep Audrey in your thoughts and prayers. ACCOLADES FOR ALPHA NU Alumni Encouraged to Visit the Chapter House On another note, Brothers John Sherwood '58 and Charles Eldridge '50 recently passed away to Chapter Eternal. Bibo '74 Grand Trustee and President - Alpha Nu House Corporation jbibo@austin.rr.com — Home (512) 238-7850 — Cell (512) 350-6170 F rom the depiction of Greek life seen in the media, Matt Johnson '15 originally had a firm stance against joining a fraternity. However, with the encouragement of Tom Smith, University of Southern California '56, a friend of his grandfather, Matt was introduced to the brotherhood of Alpha Nu. Immediately, he knew fraternity life and Sigma Chi were for him. "I discovered a genuineness and deep sense of brotherhood at Alpha Nu more than at any other fraternity I had seen," Matt said, "I knew it was the place for me." Sigma Chi was different than the other fraternities on campus. It not only focused on having a fun time, but taught brothers how to lead and to develop true, close friendships with all of the members. "Alpha Nu was, and still is, different, and we pride ourselves on that," Matt said. (Continued on page 2) Recent Graduate Matt Johnson '15 Reminds Alumni to Stay Active
