Main St. Quartzsite Open Tues. thru Sat. 9-3 928-927-4223 Parker, AZ - On Friday afternoon, September 11th, three people visiting from Riverside California, drove 11 miles into the desert, south of Ehrenberg, AZ. While ex- ploring the area, they became lost and called a local family member for assistance. Later that evening, the Uncle located the missing young adults but then became stuck and eventually lost as well. The four individuals remained in the desert all night without water. The next morning, three indi- viduals began walking towards the river to try to fi nd their way out. Due to an injury sustained during the evening, the uncle remained at the vehicle. After several hours of walking and feeling the effects of heat exhaus- tion, they were able to get a signal and contact the La Paz County Central Dispatch. At 09:00 am, the helicopter was launched and within the hour, all four individu- als were located and provided with water and treated medically. According to Lieutenant Schlecht and Sergeant Norris, it would not have been possible to locate, transport and treat the four miss- ing individuals, in a timely manner, without the use of the helicop- ter. Considering the condition of victims when they were located, there's a very good chance they may not have survived. Sheriff John Drum was very pleased with the coordinated effort between our Central Dispatch, Patrol Deputies and the helicopter/ pilot. | L P C. S' D.
