As part of this year's IMUN program Heather led seminars with the youth providing instruction in cultural awareness and understanding. A high point of this event was Heath- er's presentation of awards to the winners of two year-long worldwide youth contests, who were fl own to the United States for the event, in- volving entries created by more than 1000 youth from over 70 countries. These worldwide UNESCO youth contests were administered under the auspices of UNESCO by Heath- er's Foundation, the World Genesis Foundation, that operates with a mission to "Leave no child without hope for the future." Finally Heather began a two-day journey by plane, train, car and boat to reach a remote area of eastern Europe in Romania where her foun- By Dave Anderson Local Quartzsite resident Heather Caton recently completed a month- long trip leading and celebrating the success of three separate worldwide youth programs for the United Na- tions Educational, Scientifi c and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Heather's fi rst stop was the Nelson Mandela International Day Pro- gram for Freedom, Justice & De- mocracy in Frederick, Maryland. The program included more than 300 participants and dignitaries from around the world and was or- ganized by the UNESCO Center for Peace and the United States Federa- tion of UNESCO Clubs & Centers for which Heather serves as the Secre- tary General. At the event a new organization, "Action Moves People United," launched a new spoken word CD promoting peace and international good will. Heather is a board mem- ber for the new organization and a project manager for the CD. Sup- porting the CD were many celebri- ties including Steve Walsh, John Lennon's son Julian Lennon, Laura Sullivan, Sister Sledge, D.J. Mbenga and others. Funds raised from the CD sale will benefi t the mission of United States Federation of UNES- CO Clubs. Next Heather joined the Internation- al Model United Nations (IMUN) program, an annual summer pro- gram hosted in the United States. The IMUN program held in the Washington, DC metro area, gath- ers together the best and the bright- est young minds from around the globe. Over the course of two weeks, the student-delegates learn from their peers about other cultures, societies and perspectives, and also share their own unique views.
