16 UCW AUGUST 26 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM 484-6200 www.upandcomingweekly.com Turn to our calendar every Wednesday and see what's happening! a TOURISM MEANS BUSINESS FOR CUMBERLAND COUNTY Tourism impacted Cumberland County's economy at $490 million in 2014. This is a 3.85% increase from 2014. These expenditures generated state and local tax revenues of $35.7 million, which represents a $108.39 savings to residents of Cumberland County. The Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) works to maximize in-county tourism expenditures by promoting Cumberland County as a destination for meetings, tournaments and individual travel. We encourage overnight visitation and stays, and generate products to assist visitors in exploring all of Cumberland County's tourism amenities. The FACVB is funded by occupancy tax collected from overnight visitors staying at county hotels. This funding structure means that while Cumberland County residents receive the benefits of tourism to Cumberland County, the efforts do not cost residents anything. "Fifteen years of branding, marketing and tourism strategies have helped tourism be an economic engine for Cumberland County," says John Meroski, FACVB president and chief executive officer.
