12 AUGUST 26 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM J. Cole or Jermaine Lamarr Cole is a Fayetteville native, platinum- selling, Grammy-nominated rapper, who is returning to his hometown for a concert on Aug. 29. His concert coincides with his latest and third album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. The title of the album is a call back to his actual house in Fayetteville where he says he truly found himself and his purpose as a teenager. The album focuses on this integral moment in his musical identity. In this home, he finally had the privacy of his own room and this privacy he took as a sign of progress and used it to shape his future. Cole uses this album to reflect on where that coveted privacy has brought him. The success of having his own room as a teenager seems humble compared to the successes he has achieved as an adult. He explores the fame, passion and growth the last few years brought him with his unique insight. He is known for his reflective lyrics, and this concert is no different. It is classic J. Cole at full force and invigorated by a trip home. 2014 Forest Hills Drive was one of the highest-selling hip-hop albums of 2014. Its debut was met with tremendous success, it immediately jumped to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Charts. Cole will not be dominating the stage alone. The tour also features Big Sean, YG and Jeremih. Artists Bas, Cozz and Omen will also be making special appearances. The J. Cole concert is at the Crown Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 29.
