Psi Chapter: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future
E
ach of us, simply by our presence, has contributed to the history of Sigma
Chi at the University of Virginia. Currently, there are approximately
1,040 living Psi Alumni. We will need a high level of participation from our
Alumni base to make Psi sustainable for the next 60 years. At the beginning
of this undertaking, a small group of Alumni made early commitments
totaling more than one million dollars to demonstrate the importance of
this project to the Brotherhood. We urge each Alumnus to do the same and
consider a major gift to the campaign. To help donors maximize their gifts,
the campaign board has designed the campaign with our Alumni in mind.
Campaign Committee. Steve Herbert '68 and Bret Holden '83 have
been appointed campaign chairmen for the Psi Chapter: Honoring Our Past,
Building Our Future campaign. They are joined by a number of committed
Psi Alumni from six decades of collective experience at 608 Preston
Place. Steve and Bret are available at r.s.herbert@hotmail.com or bholden@
sycomtech.com to discuss all aspects of the project with Psi Alumni.
Tax Deductibility. The Internal Revenue Service will allow exclusive
educational space in the newly constructed Chapter House to be funded with
tax-deductible dollars that are gifted through the Sigma Chi Foundation and
designated for the Psi Chapter. With only a portion of the project meeting
this stipulation, the need for non-tax-deductible gifts is great. Accordingly,
we are asking the majority of donors to direct their gift to the U.Va. Fund
on a non-tax-deductible basis. However, donors who are able to pledge
$50,000 or more over five years are invited to direct their pledge through
the Sigma Chi Foundation on a tax-deductible basis.
Payment Options. Pledges can be fulfilled as a one-time gift or through
annual installments spread over five years.
Matching Gifts and Tax Benefits on Gifts of Securities. If
your employer offers a matching gift program, this gift may be eligible.
Also, gifts of securities are encouraged as there are often significant tax
