Construc- tion on Post 179 began on Lincoln's birthday in 1933 from lumber and redwood logs. e self-appointed volunteer committee accomplished most of the building. A master mason who served in the German army from 1914 to 1918 built the massive fireplace, chimney, and much of the cabin's stonework. Two 75-millimeter World War II–era artillery guns lie in front of the historic log cabin, which houses a spacious meeting hall and dance floor, a raised bandstand, a com- mercial kitchen, a separate ante room with a bar, an outdoor brick barbecue in a grassy picnic area, a full-service bar, and a game room with a pool table, darts and TVs. e log cabin can be rented for special occasions. IMAGINATION PARK 535 San Anselmo Ave., San Anselmo, 415-454-2510, www.sananselmopark.org "You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give." — Sir Winston Churchill A Gi to San Anselmo from George Lucas We are fortunate to live and work in a beautiful place with fine homes, excellent schools, loving families and unique shops and businesses. Some of our greatest assets, however, are the people who care deeply and contribute generously to our community. Mr. Lucas is among the people who care so deeply, demonstrated by his generous donation of property and assets to build our community gathering center, designed to enrich and add vitality to the heart of our downtown — Imagination Park — appropriately named by San Anselmo locals, Bob Atwood, David Donery and Lauren Matthys. e park features two bronze statues donated by Mr. Lucas: the wise Yoda from Star Wars and the adventurous Indiana Jones. e statue of Indiana Jones is the only one on display in the world, which adds a distinctive note to the park and delights locals and visitors. Urban planners understand the importance of parks. Leafy, open spaces provide a respite from the fast pace of our daily lives; a safe place to relax and enjoy the company of others. While town parks are essential, there is an enormous amount of effort that goes into creating and maintaining them. Bringing a park to life is one way we can engage and focus on making our communities better places to live, raise families, and do business. As one study points out, the ability and willingness to work together to create such community assets defines "stable, prosperous places where people want to live and work." We would like to express our gratitude to the person who made Imagination Park happen, Mr. George W. Lucas, and for his unwavering generosity and many efforts to improve our community and Marin County as a whole. On behalf of the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce, San Anselmo Community Foundation and our entire community, we sincerely thank GEORGE W. LUCAS!
