Residents enjoy great weather, excellent schools and plenty of local shopping and eateries. Median home prices are $985,000, averaging $560.44 per square foot. Diverse architectural styles allow home buyers great choices. Both residential and commercial real estate sales and leasing remain strong due to the desirability of the town and limited inventory. San Anselmo has two distinct and thriving commercial areas. e Red Hill Shopping Center, anchored by Safeway and CVS, is a 98,000 square foot plaza where shoppers also have easy access to banking, gasoline, pet suppliers/adoption services, real estate, boutiques, salons, restaurants, coffee shops, dry cleaning and fitness with plenty of parking. e second commercial area is downtown San Anselmo and nearby Greenfield Avenue and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Downtown San Anselmo hosts the Town Hall, Library, Police Station, Firehouse and the popular Imagination Park. Known as the "Antiques Capital of Northern California," San Anselmo's commercial offerings have diversified in recent years. Most of the antique shops are now consolidated on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and the former Pavillion Antiques building may soon house a tire store. San Anselmo said goodbye to long term businesses, e Great Acorn Company, Royal Sweet Bakery, Shadows and Beauty Store USA. e town welcomes new proprietors Sugar, Bistro Vis a Vis, Armstrong Gardening Center, Via Engineering and Kitty Corner. ere's a noticeable emphasis on health, fitness and dining which reflects in many new establishments. San Anselmo continues to provide quality businesses and services that residents and visitors want so they don't have to venture anywhere else. 1960 Old Northwestern Pacific powerhouse at Hub demolished. 1963 Town's historic train station razed. 1967 Grand opening of Red Hill Shopping Center. 1974 Gift of 14 acres of open space for park given to town by Frederick Faude. Fire destroys Robson Estate carriage house. 1979 Town Hall's renovation completed. Robson- Harrington House refurbished for public use. 1982 Town flood brings disastrous results. 2005 A flood on New Year's Eve causes millions of dollars in damages to town. Majority of damaged businesses quickly rebuild and reopen. 2013 The San Anselmo Chamber's Charitable Foundation receives property and resources donated by George W. Lucas to build Imagination Park in the center of downtown, the community gathering place.
