10 | Winter • 2009 Editor's Corner T his edition of CityView spans the transitional winter months of December 2009 and January 2010. All the festivity of the holiday season is captured in that first month, including the celebration that greets a brand new year. Then, in January, life resumes a more subdued pace as that new year begins to unfold. We hope that you'll find in this issue lots to help you celebrate, and lots to engage you when the celebrations are past. Speaking of celebrations, check out the story on what the Dogwood Festival is doing this year to help us all welcome in 2010. It all sounds so good that I believe we may be witnessing the birth of an annual tradition. One of my favorite places in is The Cameo Art House Theater, be it in January or July. I was taken aback to learn that it's been in operation for a decade – seems like just the other day I saw their very first offering, "The Color of Paradise." An Iranian film, it was shown in the Farsi language with English subtitles. Not exactly your typical blockbuster Hollywood film, but it was a memorable movie. In this issue, you can learn more about the Cameo, the three- person partnership that envisioned what an art theater could bring to Fayetteville and then made it happen, and how, as a business, it has to adapt and accommodate changes in order to survive. Sara VanderClute, Editor We're also bringing you a wonderful article on fiber art. More precisely, the article is about quilts as art. The Fayetteville Museum of Art recently closed a display of quilts chosen for their artistic qualities. For those who want to gaze upon some lovely quilts, visit Loving Stitches at the north end of Ramsey Street – the sewing machine and materials store has many displayed. They are not for sale, but serve as inspiration to many. There's lots more – timely Hot Finds, a glimpse of the graceful art of ice- skating, and insight into the new group of on-the-way-up young professionals in Fayetteville. Plus, you can learn about the benefits of aspirin even as you learn how to dispose of outdated medicines safely. This issue is my swan song with CityView, as Allison Williams returns to the position of editor for the next issue of the magazine – and I retreat once again to the happy environs of retirement. It's been great, and I am grateful to all concerned for the opportunity to once again be a part of CityView, Fayetteville's Lifestyle Magazine. May it continue to bring you interesting insights into the people and places and pastimes that make Fayetteville such a wonderful place to be.
