Instead of a damp bare bones storage space under the house, Rob transformed a major portion of the basement into a man cave where he can practice playing his amplified guitar and enjoy selecting the right cigar for the right occasion from his walk-in humidor. A tiled shower is also an added bonus. There were some items the Claytons discovered in the historic house that remained. The hand-painted wall paper in the downstairs half-bath was too beautiful to remove and it stayed, Jane said. Then there was the molding: intricate and detailed woodwork trim that Rob to this day finds fascinating. There was also the treasure drove of Japanese block prints that Rob found in an attic, which today hang beautifully framed throughout the house, accompanied by additional Japanese art brought back from Japan by Jane's mother. The Claytons transformed their Hillside house into the home they always wanted. The house is so unlike their small, two-bedroom, single-bath abode they previously lived in. This house is perfect, it's great for entertaining, the Claytons said. In fact, in 2007, the house was featured on the HGTV's If Walls Could Talk program after Rob found the Japanese artwork. Additionally, the house is located in a great neighborhood where children's colorful chalk art on the sidewalks says it's a good place to raise kids. That's why it will be so difficult for the Claytons to leave the house. Despite having achieved Eden with their home on Hillside Avenue, the Claytons have two young boys who need more space. They'll be moving into the house left to Jane by her late mother, after it is remodeled. It took the Claytons six months to come to terms with their decision to leave this house. In fact, they had the house for sale for two weeks in May, showed it to a couple of people, had second thoughts, and took it off the market. "We adore our home, we poured our hearts and souls into it, but we need more room for the boys. Mother's home is more open, more contemporary. We need to spread out," Jane said. CV
