Page 2 T he year that National Lampoon's Animal House was released to the- aters and gas was 63 cents per gallon, Matt Rose '81 was start- ing school at the University of Missouri and taking pride in becoming a Gamma Kappa Zeta member. Since Lambda Chi has been at Mizzou, brothers from all gen- erations have found a like-minded group of men who share an interest in academics and leadership. Alumni know that their membership in Gamma Kappa benefitted them tremendously by adding positive experiences to their college years, both academi- cally and socially. While every Gamma Kappa's experience is slightly different, one constant remains the same: the values and brotherhood that all members share. The camaraderie Matt encountered is unsurpassed, and he is confident he will never forget the brisk fall morning he and pledge class brothers hopped in the car and drove to the Ozarks to spend the day water skiing. This moment and countless others, both big and small, fostered relationships that Matt has cherished throughout his life. Reflecting on how he got to where he is today, Matt says he owes a lot to the experiences he gained as a Lambda Chi. "Working with various influences—scholastic, academic, geographic—made it hard to get a consensus on things that come up. The fraternity taught me collaboration, working with teams, and making tough decisions." Learning leadership skills, conflict management, and how to work well with others set Matt on a path for success. "Success comes down to hard work, willingness to commit and enjoying the journey, and opportu- nity—especially accepting opportunities as they're presented to you," Matt says. "Gamma Kappa is developing young men who will be strong leaders for the rest of their lives." Matt and his wife live in Westlake, Texas, where Matt works as the executive chairman of BNSF Railway Company and is responsible for the long-term strategy and financial results of the company. Matt is proud to share the Lambda Chi bond with his son, who was the chapter president of Iota Pi Zeta at Texas Christian University. Brothers and friends gathered in June for the Cardinals vs. Royals game in St. Louis. Stay up to date on upcoming alumni events near you!
