Contributed by Violet Kiss What a terrifi c "Red, White and… Kaboom" Celebration we all had on July 3rd! So many organizations came out, townspeople, including families with all their children; fun was had by all (me too). Our club members came out blazing to help serve our townspeople with tasty all-beef hot dogs, chili dogs, potato salad and nachos. We have a great team who loved doing what we did on this Holiday and that is to volunteer our time as a com- munity service to…you. This is now offi cially our annual commu- nity Service Project. We hope you enjoyed it. We also want to thank Terry Bayshore, Lois Dupre, and Rich- ard Trusty of the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank who, right alongside us, were there through- out the early sweltering evening serving food with a great BIG smile. I am sure these 3 volunteers would thank you all for the check we wrote them representing the tip jar designated for the Quartzsite Food Bank. This came from your generosity in giving back. As we settle in for the heat of our monsoon season (I think that's what we call our "summer", right?), our latest update is to announce our 2015 Online High Schools Recipient of our $1,000 Academic Scholar- ship. As you know, we awarded Jennifer Wilkinson of Salome High School earlier last month for our 2015 Public High School $1,000 Academic Scholarship. Now, ta-da, the winner from the fi nalists for the 2015 Online High Schools Scholarship is…Victor Lopez of Quartzsite. Victor was the last to interview and did a fantas- tic job showing his intent and his passion for going to college and to become an engineer. Did you know he graduated from Ed Op- tions Learning Center in just 3 years? He also worked throughout his high school years. Now that's determination. He's a wonderful, polite young man. Please, if you see Jennifer and Victor, please con- gratulate them. Hard work, vol- unteerism, and determination will help these young people go far. We are very proud of these two and all of the applicants from Salome High and the 2 Online Learning Centers. Surely we have wonderful students growing up here in Quartzsite and in our surrounding areas. Have a wonderful summer, every- one --- try to keep cool as possible (and our pet critters too)!
