2 Yon Clarion Bell moving the Temple that, at that time, resided next to another fraternity. We moved it from there to next door to our DKE house and it was quite a trip. I don't know how the bricks didn't fall apart, but we got it up there in one piece." This experience and countless others formed bonds that Phil has cherished ever since. At least once a year for the last 35 years, Phil gets together with former roommates and brothers, Larry Bossidy '57, Charles "Charlie" Garivaltis '57, and Robert "Bob" Stoner '57. Together they spend hours reminiscing about DKE memories and getting caught up on their major life events. "These brothers impacted and shaped my time at Colgate and are still close friends today," Phil explains. "I am happy to say they are lifelong brothers and a testament to the bonds we forged at Colgate." Phil, Larry, Charlie, and Bob used to look forward to returning to Colgate for alumni events where they had the opportunity to gather with DKE brothers, share stories from the past, and visions for the future. Looking ahead, Phil is confident Mu will regain a prominent position on campus and says, "I believe we have an excellent chairman of the board of Colgate and if we get the right president in place, there will be another opportunity for DKE to return to Colgate in the future— hopefully in the very near future. We've made commitments over the years to Colgate and the Fraternity. We now have others that are going to help keep up that obligation. I hope that we can keep that spirit up." With the support of a strong alumni base, the longevity of the Chapter is inevitable. As a lifelong advertising executive, Phil has appreciated a successful career doing what he loves. "When I was at the helm of Interpublic Group of Companies for 20 years, the stock compounded out at 22%. I appreciated working so much that I still run my own marketing and communications consulting business," he says. "I may have retired from Interpublic, but I am definitely still working and doing what I enjoy." In his down time, Phil is an avid tennis player and active philanthropist. Nine years ago this diehard tennis enthusiast died on the court before being revived, and with the help of modern medicine and a heart transplant, Phil is back on the court and enjoying many more years of the game he loves. Phil represents the best of the Mu tradition of giving back to his community by sitting on the boards of Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Autism Speaks, Save the Children, Columbia Business School, The Whitney Museum, and the Tennis Hall of Fame.
