OklahOma Beta IS hOnOred aS PreSIdent'S trOPhy WInnerS Undergraduates Give Back to the Community and Their Future Brothers T he spring 2015 semester is in the books, and proved to be one of the most outstanding in Oklahoma Beta's renowned history. The steadfast work of the active members this year led to the second overall intramural championship in the past three years, one of the most successful Coffeehouse and Desserts events to date, the creation of a new $10,000 scholarship, and the capturing of the most prestigious award given to a Greek organization by the University—the President's Trophy. Along with many other campus honors and awards, Oklahoma Beta continues to set and exceed the standard of excellence in the Greek community at OU. This March, we had the pleasure of hosting another Coffeehouse and Desserts philanthropy event with the ladies of Delta Delta Delta. This event welcomed 60 people from the University community to perform in our basement, raising $10,678 for St. Jude's Children Hospital. Altogether, the philanthropic efforts of the members this year led to nearly 6,000 hours of community service given to the Norman and OKC areas. Oklahoma Beta's excellence this semester culminated in President David L. Boren awarding SigEp the President's Trophy, OU's highest honor given within the Greek community. This award, chosen by President Boren and other campus faculty, honors organizations based on the criterion of academics, campus involvement, multicultural interaction, and volunteerism. Along with the President's Trophy comes a cash award, which our executive committee decided to allot to a scholarship fund. We look forward to assisting those who couldn't otherwise afford the opportunity to become a part of the community at SigEp. We are extremely excited that alumni decided to match our dollar amount, creating $10,000 in scholarships to be given to incoming freshmen next year. We are thankful for the accolades that affirm we are providing a membership experience unlike any other on campus. We relish the opportunity to continue to enhance the membership experience as we move forward into the 2015-2016 school year. Alumni, we encourage you to stop by the house this fall during game days or on your next trip to Norman. We look forward to seeing you!
