The suites with private bathrooms, and the private living rooms, weight room, project room, study rooms, soccer field, alumni room, the exquisite foyer are attracting the best and brightest. The weight room is extremely popular and well used. At our last Alumni House Fund meeting we approved new weights and racks that are a substantial upgrade over the previous set. Competition for members is getting fierce. We are not the only new house on the block. KA, SigEp, Delta Sig, and PKA all have recently renovated their facilities and several others are in the fundraising process. In addition to having nice facilities, they offer scholarships to attract new recruits. We currently offer a $1,000 scholarship to incoming freshmen who meet certain academic requirements. We typically give away 6-10 of these each year. This scholarship is funded by the Kappa Sigma Endowed Educational Foundation and it is managed by the University. If you are ever donating to the University, you can specify the money be placed into this fund. You will get credit for donating to MS&T and Kappa Sigma. In order to keep up with the competition, we approved two additional $1,500 White Columns scholarships. These two scholarships will be given to the best of the best and an interview is required. This scholarship is funded by the Beta- Chi Educational Foundation, our 501(c)(3), tax-exempt entity that is funded by alumni. Brother Norman Hart '53 and Brother John Ricketts '58 have also endowed scholarships for Kappa Sigma actives through the University. I want to thank them and encourage others to help us with scholarships. If you are interested in funding a scholarship, let me know and I can direct you to the best place. Details on these scholarships are available on our website, www.beta-chi.com. Last week I received a call from our former district grand master. He told me we were the rock stars of Kappa Sigma chapters and he wanted some advice on how he can help others. I told him that it was alumni support that makes our Chapter so great. I want to thank all of you for your support; it is the key to our success. If so, please send your nomination to Ed Jantosik '76 at ecjjrpeatt@att.net along with why your brother should be inducted. An Easy Decision to Make Steve Ederle '84 Reflects on His Time at Beta-Chi F or Steve Ederle '84, the decision to join Kappa Sigma was an easy one. While he had many choices at Missouri S&T, his two older brothers, John Ederle '77 and Dave Ederle '81, had already joined Kappa Sigma and Steve knew that was where he wanted to be as well. The men of Beta-Chi offered him friendship and a place to call home while in Rolla. They made the transition to college much easier and within just a few weeks he had 80 brothers to hang out with and learn from. Steve recalls the festivities of St. Pat's being a favorite time for him and his fellow Beta-Chis. It was a tradition they took part in wholeheartedly every year. He also remembers the infamous annual beach party. While an outsider may not understand spreading 20 tons of sand just to have a party, then cleaning it up afterward, it was a party for the books. "It was one of those things where you just had to be there." His time with Beta-Chi was not just fun and games. Steve really came to appreciate the men in Beta-Chi and friendships he made there. "I learned so much about people during my college years. Living (Continued on page 2)
