P R E S T I G E S A L O N 4 7 w w w . g e m v e t o . c o m | 2 1 2 . 7 5 5 . 2 5 2 2 Forty fi ve years ago, a young French jeweler landed in New York with three wedding bands in his pocket that would change the face of the bridal ring market. Jean Vitau, armed with talent and a vision introduced the Gemlok setting, and while many scoffed at the idea of innovation in the bridal ring market, determined to make his mark, Jean presented his setting to many big New York Jewelers. The then patented "bar" setting, later trademarked as Gemlok, was an inno- vative setting technique, that not only afforded the discerning bride with a unique, elegant look but also a "tech- nically" more secure, snag proof way of setting diamonds. After partnering with a large New York retailer with great success, the Vitaus decided to market their unique product and were amongst the fi rst manufacturers to brand their product and advertise, in partnership with their retailers to the public. As the bands success grew, the Vitaus, with the same relentless standard of quality, expanded the Gemlok collection to include necklaces, bracelets, earrings, offering something for what was quickly becoming a devoted Gemlok consumer. Having established themselves as a major force in the wedding band mar- ket, and joined by their daughter, Mimi Galli, Jean and Irene decided to branch off into more fashion oriented pieces. Now their customers could not only have their basic jewelry needs met but also add fun and fashion to their collec- tions. Inspired by the vibrant beauty of nature, rendered in the most vividly hued precious jewels, the fashion line is the ultimate merging of creativity, the artist's palette and the master jeweler's craft. Jean Vitau, has left a legacy which is rigorously continued by his wife Irene, his daughter, Mimi and the craftsman he helped mold into the quality jewelers that make up the New York shop. The highest standard of quality and attention to detail live on. Irene and Mimi take great pride in the fact that all is manu- factured here in the U.S.A which allow Gemveto to service customers promptly and with any customization required. Gemlok, often imitated, never dupli- cated. The owners of Gemlok creations know that they are wearing tomorrow's classics today and forever. 42 www.thejewelrybook.com
