She likes to decorate with fresh greens, flowers and fruits, but says those items are best leſt to the last min- ute so they don't begin to droop. "I browse my vendors and websites and order early," Malson said. "I usually know what I am going to do with decor by the end of October but the work is all done the week of the party. I operate on a very tight timeline the week of the party. My family and friends have come to know it as 'party panic mode'." She makes life a little easier on her- self by keeping a notebook from one year to the next, with menus, a guest list, a RSVP list, invitations, pictures and receipts. "My guest list is a very eclectic mix of people from every walk of life," Malson said. "You never know who may show up. I have had drag queens, drunk Santa and had naughty neighbors moon peo- ple — and yes, those who misbehave may not get invited back!" But it's the guest list that makes all the work worth it for Malson. She said that, year aſter year, she makes the effort to host her soiree because it's an opportu- nity to have fun with people she enjoys. "So many times we are just passing each other at fundraisers, school or the grocery store," Malson said.
