MARCH 25-31, 2015 UCW 15 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Working hard and achieving goals are the two things that I have always done. Just imagine the day when you can fill out your paperwork because you are eligible to retire and do some of the things that you have always wanted to do. The Cumberland County Retired School Personnel Organization will have its next meeting on Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m., at the Educational Resource Center and would like to invite all retired educators to come and join the meeting for information, fun and good food. "This organization is really an extension of the North Carolina Association of Educators," said Pat Randall, membership chair of the Cumberland County Retired School Personnel Organization. "We are the local level of this association and the group consists of individuals who are retired from an educational position and have worked with public schools in some capacity." Randall added that the meetings are held the second Monday of each month at the Educational Resource Center. The organization's current goal is to increase membership and to let people know that once they retire from the school system this will be their next level. "We are over 50-years-old and we all do different things," said Randall. "One thing we all do is support public education locally and in the state." Randall added that the organization helps legislators know about the things that were promised to educators when they retire and to make sure they continue to have good health insurance and retirement benefits. Volunteering is also something that is important to this organization. "We are an organization but we are not sitting here saying we are retired folk because we are still working," said Randall. "We are working in different capacities and some of us are back in the classroom or in administration, holding tutorial sessions, helping with school supplies, uniforms and school tournaments." Randall added that whenever a cause arises that has to do with education, they are there to support it and make their voice heard for teachers and the organization. This is a group of retired educators who are still working to make a difference in the lives of others. "We want people to know that we are here, there is a place here for them, and there is power in numbers," said Randall. "So come and check us out and help us to be the best organization for retired folk that we can be." The Educational Resource Center is located at 396 Elementary Drive.
