The Indiana Gram Dave Keller '81 and Brian "Red" Tuohy '77 Relaunch Alumni Golf Outing W hen the Indiana Gamma golf outing first began in the mid-'80s, 30-40 alumni would gather for drinks, cigars, and a game of golf as a way to rekindle brotherly bonds. After 20 consecutive years, participation slowly dwindled so event coordinator Brian "Red" Tuohy '77 decided to take a hiatus, allowing him more time to dedicate to his family and career. In 2010, after a six-year lapse, Dave Keller '81 joined forces with Brian, and together they brought back the beloved Indiana Gamma golf outing. Roughly 90 brothers showed up to the golf outing when it returned, and the momentum has stayed up in the years that followed. "The tradition returned with the Chapter," Brian says. It's no doubt the Chapter serves as an outlet to bring alumni from every decade together in conjunction with the golf tournament, the Chapter house provides all with newfound enthusiasm and excitement. "I wouldn't have changed anything about my college experience," Brian reflects. "These people still mean a lot to me, and this event allows us to reconnect with our best friends from college. It's not much work to get together and have a good time." Looking to the future of Indiana Gamma, Brian and Dave are confident the Chapter will thrive for decades to come. "I try to stay active with the Chapter because it's a worthy institution to support. I hope the guys now take away the same relationships and lessons I was lucky enough to take away," Dave says. "IU SAEs are the greatest guys I know and some of my best friends in life. I love to see them and be around them." The 2015 golf outing is scheduled for Monday, June 15, with a 12 p.m. shotgun start at Highland Country Club. Cold beverages will be provided on the course with dinner immediately following. Brian enjoys his career as a real estate litigation and development lawyer at Doninger, Tuohy & Bailey LLC but, above all, takes pride in being a family man. He and his wife, Marita, who graduated from Indiana University school of Dentistry, have four children who all followed the IU tradition, with two currently attending IU, one attending IU Medical School, and one recent IU graduate. Together Brian and Marita live in Indianapolis. To contact Brian, send him an e-mail at btuohy@dtblegal.com. Dave and his wife, Jenny, live in Indianapolis where Dave works in commercial real estate finance with HFF, Inc. Dave and Jenny, who are both IU graduates, are proud of their two oldest sons for following the Hoosiers tradition. Their youngest son, who is a high school senior, is looking into continuing the IU legacy. "I would encourage him to give Indiana Gamma serious consideration, but it will be his choice of course."
