Alumni Support HelpS indiAnA GAmmA tHrive How Will You Get Involved? The Indiana Gram Indiana Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon • Indiana University G amma is truly rising from the ashes like a phoenix. It is safe to say that the Fraternity has arguably the best relationship with the University since the early '70s. The Chapter finished the first semester with a 3.45 GPA, ranking second on campus among fraternities! I was on the phone with Blaine "Boomer" Ayers, the executive director for the Fraternity discussing Gamma. He made the comment that "good was the enemy of great, and that Indiana Gamma could be a great Chapter." To be honest; but, I was somewhat offended at first but the more I thought about it—and it pains me to say this about a Kentucky graduate—Boomer was right. Gamma is a good Chapter, but with your help we can be great. Alumni support is the lever that will enable Gamma to be great. We need you to continue stopping by the Chapter house when you are in town, continue mentoring the undergraduates, and continue donating to the bike team and Indiana Gamma's Chapter Education Fund. Donations to the CEF will help members attend Leadership School and to fund possible scholarships in the future. We all have a wealth of knowledge that we can share that may make a significant difference in their future; they really do notice and appreciate when we are around. In terms of donating, every little bit counts, so please consider making a contribution to support our members. Thanks again for all that you do on behalf of Gamma. I look forward to seeing you at Little 500! Phi Alpha, Steve Mitchell '83 President House Corporation / Alumni Association smitchell@ameritech.net or sm2824@att.net W e're only weeks away from the 65th Little 500 and we are here to tell you that SAE Cycling is fit and ready to run as one of the leaders in the 2015 race. This year our team con- sists of returning all-star rider and Team Captain Andy Krahulik '16, along with Arjun Sridhar '15, Mitchell Sasseman '16, Jake Hartmeister '16, Joe Krahulik '18, Student Coach Neil Troeger '17, and Team Manager Michael Craig '16. Last fall the Gamma Bike Team finished sixth overall in IU's fall cycling series. The team showed significant improvement from the spring 2014 Individual Time Trials (ITT). The ITTs are a very important indicator of speed and strength, and the improvement demonstrated the commitment that these guys have made for SAE cycling. In January the team traveled to Austin, Texas, where they were able to get five good days of riding, logging 290 miles before being hit with freezing rain on the final day. Workouts consisted of base miles, two-man team time trials, pace lines, high cadence sprints, a large amount of climbing, tight cornering, and bike control. Train- ing continued through January and February as the guys cycled outdoors despite cold temperatures and snow. When the weather became inclement, workouts retreated to Gamma's indoor training facility on the Compu-Trainers and Roller Stations. The team will then spend their spring break in Bloomington (as a result of budget constraints) training at the track and out on the road. Last year, our goal was to have the team finish on the lead lap and in the top 10. Our bikers achieved that goal, finishing eighth and completing 200 laps. Our goal this year is to finish in the top three Gamma Bike Team Poised to Compete (Continued on page 2)
