THE ORACLE A L P H A - O M I C R O N Z E TA O F L A M B D A C H I A L P H A AT I N D I A N A U N I V E R S I T Y / S P R I N G 2 0 1 5 A s we continue the spring semester at Alpha- Omicron, we have spent our energy and money on renovating our 90-year- old fraternity house. At the same time we have transitioned to a new set of officers and moved our membership to 160 undergraduates. Considering we were at 78 members five years ago, I cannot thank the dedication of this undergraduate team enough for what we have achieved in such a short time. Our most critical mission is to mentor our members and encourage them to be the best on campus not only from a behavioral standpoint, but also from an educational perspective. The chapter has participated in several charitable events last semester, with the Hoosier Hills Food Bank a key recipient of their volunteerism. That said, we are still very proud of our GPA, which remains in the top five of all fraternities on campus. Although I enjoy talking about what these young gentlemen are achieving, I will let President Dan Cummins '17 expand upon those topics. You can read his report on page 3. From a house perspective we continue to spend on the building to keep us relevant on campus for recruitment, and to ensure we help this grand old house make it another 90 years. We built the Harold Mumby Library space out of our formal room to accommodate those members who needed more study space. We also added a larger conference room for executive meetings. The old library space was converted to the Col. William Hornaday Billiards Room. I would estimate that over 75% of the chapter is involved in pool tournaments, and this room is always active. By moving this room into the informal area, we keep the active traffic pattern on that side of the house, allowing the new library some space away from the noise. Over the last three years we have spent more than $200,000 on improvements. I have included some pictures of the new rooms for you to inspect. Thank you all who have contributed to the house improvements. We couldn't have made this happen without your help. We are approaching the 100th anniversary of Alpha-Omicron in 2017! William Hornaday Billiards Room, formerly the library. The formal room was converted into the Harold Mumby Library to accommodate our growing membership. A conference room was added for leadership meetings. Thanks to generous support from alumni, we were able to make substantial upgrades to the house. L ambda Chi Alpha strives to achieve excellence in recruitment by continuously seeking out worthy aspirants for our fraternity through many sources. We actively look for alumni recommendations in order to more strongly connect the brotherhood, while also seeking members who have no initial knowledge of fraternity life. Throughout the year we look for alumni recommendations and are always learning about legacy candidates, as well. We hope to continue our upward path to success as the weeklong process begins soon and hope the semester goes well for all!
