Alpha Slants of BETA THETA PI PAGE 2 House Company Updates he Alpha House Company has worked diligently over the past year since the closure of our beloved Alpha Chapter. While we are still saddened by the fact that Betas won't be living in our home on East High Street for some time, there has been much work to ensure we are able to financially and legally maintain the Alpha chapter house in the interim. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN We send our warmest thanks to all the brothers who swiftly donated money over the holidays to ensure we could meet our short-term cash flow needs. Your generosity is commendable and will help us cover the costs of insurance, taxes, utilities, and property maintenance, as well as plans for alumni communications and work with architects on proposals for potential improvements to the facilities. STUDENT HOUSING COMPETITION HEATS UP Changes around Oxford are certainly not limited to our house. Construction is underway across the street as our neighbors at FIJI begin to rebuild following the fire in 2013. Additionally, the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity has purchased the old Acacia house and has already renovated it. On campus, Miami University has continued to add modern, competitive housing options for its students. Five new residence halls have been built in the past two years and there are plans for all residence halls to be renovated in the next 15-20 years. Together with the Alpha Chapter Recolonization Steering Committee, we are considering a full range of potential renovations for the Alpha chapter house, especially given this heightened competition. The campus has certainly changed a lot over the past few years. If you are planning on returning for alumni weekend, June 11-14, our house will be open for you to visit. Details and times will be available closer to the event. Yours in — kai — , Pete Barnhart '66 T Thoughts from the Steering Committee "Being a part of Alpha provided some of my most treasured lifelong friendships and the leadership foundation that I've relied upon for countless 'real life' situations. It's a call to give back to ensure future brothers are afforded the same opportunity." – Justin Beck '02 Chairman of the Communications Committee "The experience and true friendships that were built when I was an active continue to inspire me and are "lasting for an age." Becoming involved in the recolonization was a clear way I could influence structure and culture to reestablish the Alpha Chapter at Miami, helping other young men find the rich experience of being an Alpha Beta as I did." – Tom Cleverdon '67 Chairman of the Recolonization Committee Remembering Alpha Chapter's Past s we focus on Alpha Chapter's future, it is also important to remember our past.
