Page 4 Food Bank bags Thanksgiving is rapidly approach- ing and we still need a few things to complete our Holiday Bags. The Holi- day Bags will be ready for pick-up on Tuesday, Nov. 15, Thursday Nov. 17, and Tues. Nov. 22 between 8am-noon. There are 100 available, so it is first come first served. These bags are from the resi- dents and volunteers of Quartzsite. The Food Bank is open 8am until noon Tuesdays and Thursdays year round, but will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. We want to thank everybody that contributed to our food drive for the holidays. With the Thanksgiving Drive com- ing to an end we need to start thinking about Christmas. It's rushing toward us. This year has flown by so fast and we have so much to be Thankful For. So a very Happy Thanksgiving to All. From Carol Kelley and all my wonderful hard working volunteers. Home grown fiction I was informed by friends that an ar- ticle stating that I "fled the state" ap- peared in the yellow gossip rag Desert Freedom Press. As usual, the so-called "report" was nothing but crap created by Jennifer Jones. The only truth in it was that I went to Texas. As it hap- pens, and was well known to all who know me, that I had an appointment "THE PEOPLE'S VOICE" Letters to Editor Policy Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. Letters should be no longer than 300 words, and may be edited for grammar, content and length. OPINIONS EXPRESSED HERE DO NOT NECESSAR- ILY REPRESENT THOSE OF THE DESERT MESSENGER. We invite you to not only see a problem, but www.DesertMessenger.com THE PEOPLE'S VOICE with my doctor that had been made 9 months earlier. After 4 weeks of tests and some roofing on my house there, I returned to Quartzsite. I understand the "article" also sug- gested I left before writing my report on the meeting. Wrong again. I wrote and submitted my report before leav- ing town hall that day. I would suggest Mrs. Jones get her facts straight, but we all know that would be a lesson in futility as she never deals in facts, only home grown fiction. So my suggestion to her is get a grip on real- ity and understand you will never take over the town of Quartzsite. Go play your stupid games somewhere else. Barbara Bowman Quartzsite Bicycle safety I'm sorry I missed coffee with cops this month. I was hoping to bring up the subject of bicycle safety and cour- tesy, again. With the price of gasoline so high, it seems more and more peo- ple are taking the road with more eco- nomical transportation. Bicycles powered by pedal, gasoline and electric seem to be the preferred choices. By law, bike riders are re- quired to observe the same rules of the road as motor vehicles. I have ob- served bike riders traveling on Main Street against the flow of traffic, fail- ing to stop at stop signs, and failing to slow before entering an intersection. It's confusing to motorists as it's dif- ficult to second guess what a bike rider is going to do next. Is he/she going to search for the solution to share with the com- munity, keeping the benefit of all in mind. Letters considered libelous, in poor taste, on a personal issue, mean spirited or dominated by Scripture quotes will not be published. Third party letters will not be accepted. To avoid confusion over people with com- mon or similar names, writers must provide a full name and indicate the name they are known by. Writers must provide a full street address and phone number. Rvers can provide the location of park/BLM land, etc. Street addresses will not be published. Phone numbers are for verification only and will not be printed. Daily Activities! begins Friday, Nov. 4th. Open at 5pm. Early Birds 6:30pm. Main at 7pm. Concession stand. 928-927-6325 235 E. Ironwood St., Quartzsite suddenly cut in front of you, dart out of a side street or wobble down the middle of the lane? This time of year we have a busy, busy, police department and they have enough to do without spending their time stopping bike riders. What we do need are riders who know the rules of the road for cycling and abide by them. Most states have bike training manu- als and the rules are pretty much the same nationally. There is a good thing to remember; when there is a collision between a bi- cycle and a motor vehicle, the cyclist seldom wins. Please treat our police persons with respect. No matter what your attitude or behavior is toward them, if you have a need they will be there for you. Elmer London, Quartzsite Signals It's a little town, but people coming the other way still need to know what you have in mind when you're driv- ing your car, RV, van or other vehicle equipped with turn signals. They were put there to help other walkers/driv- ers know what you are going to do. So, hey, be a decent neighbor and obey the law. Use your turn signals. Not after you turn. Before you turn. Oh, and by the way, the speed limit on side streets is 25 mph. There's a reason for that, too. Please respect people who may be walking or coming into the street you are zooming down. Thank you. KT Good Quartzsite Paw Power update Three of our dogs have been adopted! This leaves only Vita, a medium size Rottweiler (?) mix. She is the perfect November 16, 2011 dog for any senior wanting a medium size dog. She does not have to go for long walks or require a lot of exercise. She does have to be the only animal in the house. We are down to 34 cats that need homes. If you are interested in any of these animals please call us at 928-916-0657 for an appointment. Patty Williams, QSAPC Elmer's Glue In this day and age, when apathy is at an all-time high it is most refreshing to find an elder who maintains a warrior status regarding the town in which we live. According to Elmer London, "To pro- tect this town is worthwhile and it is about time we did." Thank you, Elmer for being the glue that keeps us togeth- er in camaraderie and grateful in spirit for this town so worthy of protection.
