November 16, 2011 Seeking Christmas Parade entries Get your entries in for the Christmas Light Parade Dec. 3 By Joanne Winer Applications are available for the 9th Annual Christmas Electric Light Parade sponsored by the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce. This parade has been a huge success every year, and brings a lot of fun for all ages--those who enter the parade, and those who line the streets to watch it go by!! Pick up your entry form at the Business Chamber office during business hours Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The parade is open to everyone--floats, deco- rated vehicles, ATV groups and in- dividuals, schools, businesses etc. The parade will line up on Mes- quite Ave--just east of La Mesa RV on Main St., and will turn right on Main Street and travel east to Plym- outh Road, where it will turn north on Plymouth to the Town Hall. Trophies will be given out in the following categories --Best Overall Travelling Trophy, Best Light Dis- play, Best Non-Profit, Best Indi- vidual/Family, Best Business, Best Vendor, Best Church Group, Best Youth Group, Best Classic/Antique Vehicle, Best ATV Group and Best Individual ATV. All entries must have their ap- plications in by Dec. 1, and will have to pick up their numbers for the lineup on Friday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4p.m. Entries must have a Christmas theme, but there will only be one Santa and Mrs. Santa in the parade, provided by the Busi- ness Chamber each year. This float will not be in the competition. www.DesertMessenger.com No candy can be tossed from the floats; there will be people in cos- tume walking along the route giv- ing out candy to the kids so they don't run out into the streets in the dark. At Town Hall following the pa- rade, the tree lighting ceremony and trophies will be held, and re- freshments will be served. Come on out and enter the parade, or just come out to watch this great event!!!
