Page 22 SAR FROM PAGE 1 our volunteers have been coming back also, and we are now open six days a week from Monday through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are very thank- ful for all the donations we received in getting the store ready to open, and to those who have donated items for us to sell in the store to meet our goals. All the hard work was worth it when we had finally paid back all the loans of supplies, etc. to get the store open, and we are now able to put more money aside to help other organizations as we had planned. We are very proud to say that our first recipient of $500.00 was pre- sented at our board meeting this week to the members of La Paz Search and Res- cue. It was a great moment for all our board members and the volunteers who stayed for the meeting to meet every- one from this great organization and to be able to give them the first of what we know will be many more checks to help their organization and other groups. Gospel Music 928-927-6325 235 E. Ironwood St., Quartzsite www.DesertMessenger.com Search and Rescue do such a great job for our community, and are all vol- unteers also. They started out as we did, with nothing, and have built up their or- ganization to be one of the best Search and Rescue groups around, with three trained search dogs named Molly, Breeze and Daisy. These dogs take a lot of train- ing, and we are hoping to be able to help them raise enough for this purpose, as well as new radios, and any other equip- ment they may need so they will have whatever they need to do their jobs. We want to thank everyone who do- nates items for us to sell at the store to help with these gifts to others. We want to be able to fill in the gaps where there is a need, and will be voting every month on who receives the checks we are able to give out. We will be also helping the schools, church programs for camp, and feeding the needy through Isaiah 58. The needs of this community are great, and we are just trying to do our best to help as much as we can. We want everyone to know how much we all (board and volunteers) appreci- ated all the support from the commu- nity for this store and how much we appreciate the donations. Bring any, donated items to the back of the store during business hours--please, no large appliances, mattresses, or unsalable items. Dump fees are too high!! Please stop in the see the store if you haven't been there yet--you may see something you just can't live without, and it will help us help others who work for our community!! And Dottie was certainly, all of that. The music in Quartzsite is suc- cessful, in part, because of men and women like Jay & Dottie El- der. We can never repay them for their inexhaustible efforts on be- half of the music community; here in Quartzsite and out in Brenda. I never attended one of Jay's Jams that he didn't thank me for being there. I witnessed his enthusiasm and encouragement while mentor- ing young musicians. I can remem- ber that, at times, Jay ran himself ragged trying to keep three jams from folding; giving all of himself and asking nothing in return. We owe Jay and Dottie a lot and we are going to miss them. I already do. It is a little too late to say thanks to Jay & Dottie for everything they tried to do in this dusty desert town. They came to Quartzsite when it was little more than a gas stop on the way to somewhere. And…when they left Quartzsite last spring, on their final trip home, they could look back in their mirrors with pride, knowing they helped this community and its music grow. I think they both knew, as they departed Quartzsite, that this was their last trip south. And I hope that they can always be remem- bered fondly for their tireless ef- forts on behalf of this community. May they rest in Peace and NEVER be forgotten. My name is Chuck Morris and I'm proud to have played music with Jay and to have had these two people to call my friends.
