The DELTA PSI SIG Delta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity at RPI Spring 2015 Delta Psi Maintains Investment at 58 Pinewoods Avenue A Message from Your Phi Epsilon Phi House Corporation Y our house corporation is focused on maintaining Pomeroy Chap- ter House at 58 Pinewoods Avenue in as close to new condition as possible. To achieve that goal, we have conducted formal inspec- tions at the beginning and end of each semester. Additionally, we have made informal inspections at least once in the middle of each semester. The results of these inspections have been translated into action by our contractors to make sure that all warranty work is conducted. Recently a bent shaft on an air circulator fan was discovered and replaced, loose window sills in several bedrooms were fixed, and several wall dings were repaired by the undergraduates. Another result of our inspections was a deduction from the security deposits of various undergraduates to repair or replace specific damaged items that have occurred. During winter break, we had all the woodwork and wainscoting in the living room, hallway, and dining room repainted with a two-part epoxy. As a result of this work, the house looks good and the undergraduates generally can keep it clean with their regular work sessions. During the summer 2015 shutdown we plan to continue the hardwood floor maintenance. Plans for house improvements include new privet hedges along the front sidewalk where the old driveway entrance was, towel bars for the bedrooms, and possibly construction of a patio during August's pre- semester Work Party, August 21-23. Larry Heinniger '77 is working on the landscaping and the patio plans. Two other items the house corporation is working on with Chapter Ad- visor Bob "Justa" Eckart '73 are to meet every four to six weeks with RPI's deans and to participate in the Alumni Inter-Greek Council. This is intended to expand our Sigma Chi alumni participation in the greater RPI Greek community and the overall RPI community, thus helping to fulfill Pinewoods Educational Foundation's charter. In Hoc, John L. Pfaff '71 Phi Epsilon Phi Corporation President johnpfaff3@gmail.com The Phi Epsilon Phi board includes John Pfaff '71, president, Ken Miller '80, secretary, Jim Campbell '70, Dan Zuber '10, Bob Bedard '75, and Jim Rossetti '79. Many thanks to the current board members and to the past board members, Bill Wurst '71, Ben Tashjian '07, and Anu Srivastava '07, who stepped down recently. See page 2 for details on Sigma Chi's 65th Anniversary, Homecoming, and Work Party 2015! T he capital campaign for the reconstruction of the chapter house has been essentially completed. We are still in the collection period for many contributors who have chosen to pay their pledge over a pe- riod of years, and that is particularly important to all of the undergradu- ates who have made generous pledges. So while the capital portion of the campaign is complete, we sorely need for all of those who made pledges to continue to make payments against those pledges since our financing relies on their good faith in completing their obligation. We are fortunate to have instilled the spirit of giving to the new undergrad- uates who are making 1855 pledges—$18.55 per bi-weekly paycheck for five years starting a year after completing school. This tradition is similar to the one Arch Love '42 started so many years ago and is critical to ensur- ing that the Pinewoods Educational Foundation has a continuing source of income to fund its scholarship and educational mission. The undergradu- ates have overwhelmingly bought into this concept and will help ensure that the Delta Psi tradition continues. The fruits of the effort are beginning to show—we received an unsolicited donation from an RPI professor who attended the Pinewoods Dinner and another very generous donation from Foss Hooper '66 that went above and beyond his already generous pledge and donations to the Foundation! Foss has also volunteered to assist with a course that the Pinewoods Edu- cational Foundation will be offering for older alumni who are starting to think about estate planning and their legacy. Educational programs are not only for the undergraduates! Stay tuned for more on that front later. In Hoc, Jim Manocchi '75 PEF President jmanocchi@deloitte.com The Pinewoods Educational Foundation is appointed by the Phi Epsilon Phi House Corporation. The members are Jim Manocchi '75, who recent- ly became president, Larry Mentz '68, secretary, and Dan Hudson '70, treasurer. Many thanks to these volunteers and to our former president, Paul Cosgrave '72. Continued Support Helps Delta Psi Thrive UndergradUates Make Pledges to PoMeroy HoUse CaPital CaMPaign
