Basketball recently came to an end, and the Sports Banquet was held on February 20. Many awards were given to the student athletes. Mr. Johnson, the boys basketball coach, gave out the following awards: ● Alexis Barraza with the "Lunch Pail" award ● Oscar Cruz the "Most Outstanding Player" award ● Luis Espinoza and Theodore Manuel the "I Think I Can" award ● Joel Freedman and Rene Soqui the "Most Improved Player" award ● Mario Gamez the "Iron Man" award ● Manuel Gavilanes the "The Stopper Defensive Player" award ● Ryan Guerrero the "HUSTLE" award ● Jared Wolfe the "Sixth Man" award ● Tyler Luz the "Mighty Dog" award ● Rosa Fria the "Manager of the Year" award ● Katrina Garcia the "Bull Frog" award. Mr. Schuldt, the girls basketball coach, gave out the following awards: ● Katrina Garcia the "Leading Scorer" award ● Jasmine Fortenberry the "Leading Rebounder" award, and ● Hannah Scott was given the "Free Throw Percentage Leader" award and "Rookie of the Year" award. Salome High updates The softball, baseball, and track teams have been practicing hard. Mr. Drotzmann, the baseball coach, said, "The season looks promising and the team has improved." He also said that the team's pitching is good this year and that they expect a better season than last year. The softball coach, Mr. Schuldt, said, "The team is the stron- gest since he's been here, and that he is looking forward to the season as well. He would also like to thank his assistant coach Ron Conrad for his help with the team." Ms. Slucas, who coaches the track team, said that the group is "in good spirits and will have an enjoyable season." She is also seek- ing people to assist her with coaching. The clubs and classes have been work- ing hard to raise money as well. FBLA will be drawing the winner of the Easter Basket Drawing on March 6th, and the Class of 2017 is selling See's Candy until March 16. NHS recently sent out ap- plications to students will a 3.0 GPA or higher, and the induction ceremony will be held on March 23 for the students that have been selected. Salome's Sci- ence Club recently went to Physics Day at Castles ~n~ Coasters. Member Rosa Frias said "The club had a fun time and also learned about roller coasters and how they relate to physics." For parents and guardians, parent teacher conferences will be held in Salome at the High School on March 18 and in Quartzsite at the Arizona Western College Learning Center on March 19.
