Alumni Volunteer CorporAtion Works to reConneCt Alumni neAr And FAr Chapter Remains Strong among Fraternal Growth at OU Congratulations to Mark Fish '83 for receiving the award for Distinguished Alumni at Carlson Leadership Academy in Dallas, spring 2014. I am honored to make my inaugural report on the state of the chapter at Oklahoma Beta. As many of you know, after many, many, many years of service, Mark Fish '83 and Rich Wager '73 have turned over the reins to some new, old blood. We are forever grateful for the distinguished service of these two brothers. While the transition is anything but seamless, the heart of the Alumni Volunteer Corporation beats as always with the love of SigEp and for the men who flourish as brothers inside the Red Door. The year ahead has many opportunities for alumni to rejuvenate their love for the fraternity and connect with brothers near and far. The fraternal spirit continues to grow and thrive at the University of Oklahoma. Seven fraternities have either built new houses or made significant remodels in the past five years. The Betas are in the middle of an $8 million remodel. Recruitment enrollment was up 10% last fall. This fact and the strength of the active membership enabled SigEp to sign 70 pledges. The pledge class joined the ladies of Delta Delta Delta and won the University Sing competition on Dad's Day. We also continue to compete for number one in grades and intramurals, when not hosting the best socials and philanthropic events on campus. The actives found time to begin a new philanthropy via the Red Door Music Festival this past fall. Last semester also saw the transition of the Steve Couch Memorial Golf Tournament into a SigEp Scholarship fund in its 20th year. This tournament provided complete college education for Steve's sons and is a testament to the brotherhood of SigEp. We also initiated three Renaissance Brothers—Brett Wimberley, Jason Hamilton, and Wayne Robertson—three men who embody the ideals of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. We have much to be proud of at OK Beta as we enter a new year. I am ever thankful for the many alumni who continue to support our chapter physically, emotionally, and financially. We can always use more involvement and welcome you to contact anyone on the board or me personally. I look forward to seeing you and your family at the opportunities to gather as SigEps, especially the All-Class Reunion on February 20 and 21.
