A native of Rutherford County he is a son of the Late Hicks and Carrie Yelton Conner and was formerly employed in tex- tiles. In addition to his par- ents he was preceded in death by his wife Nora Jane Conner and his chil- dren Earl Flack, Jimmy Conner, Ronnie Conner and Lisa Conner. He is survived by three brothers-Donald Conner of Union Mills, NC; Dewitt Conner and wife Debbie of Union Mills, NC and Sam Conner and wife Kathryn of Nebo, NC; three sis- ters-Thelma Dotson of Union Mills, NC; Brenda Splawn and husband Bill of Union Mills, NC and Mary Bailey and husband Floyd of Nebo, NC. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Linda Perrigan officiating. A pri- vate burial will be held later at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in McDowell County. Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family. ROBERT HOYLE "BOB" ELLIOTT Robert Hoyle "Bob" Elliott, age 91 of Forest City passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was born August 1, 1923 in Forest City and was a son of the late Hoyle and Alma Stroup Elliott. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School, Brevard College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he lettered in swimming on the 1947- 48 Swim Team. He later received his Masters of Education from Western Carolina and his EDS from Appalachian State. He served as a teacher in numerous county schools and served as Principal of Mt. Vernon Elementary School. Bob retired as Personnel Director for Rutherford County Schools. Bob served at the rank of Captain the US Army Air Corps as a Fighter Pilot during World War II and later served in the US Air Force Reserve where he retired at the rank of Lt. Col. He was a life- long member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City where he was a mem- ber of the Sanctuary Choir, a Deacon and served on various committees. Bob enjoyed his work with Habitat for Humanity locally, as well as mis- sion trips to Poland and Chile and the throughout the United States. Bob loved and was dedicated to his family and was pre- ceded in death by a sis- ter, Suzanne Berthold and brother, Richard Elliott. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Hayes Elliott, three sons, Robert H. "Bobby" Elliott and wife Christine of Flat Rock, NC, Michael H. "Mike" Elliott and wife Robyn, of Forest City, Dr. Kenneth M. Elliott and wife, The Honorable Sherri Elliott, of Newton, a daughter, Anne Elliott of Forest City, brother, David Bruce Elliott and wife Beverly of Huntington, NY, and a sister-in-law, Glady Nell Elliott of Forest City. There are seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral was held in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Honeycutt and Reverend J. Anthony Spencer offi- ciating. Interment fol- lowed in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. DAVID SCOGGINS David Scoggins, age 54, of Caroleen, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015. Born August 15, 1960 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Beauford Scoggins and Mamie Queen Scoggins. David worked in textiles for many years, hav- ing worked for National Textiles and Mastercraft. He was a faithful mem- ber of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church and loved his dog, "Little Poppy." In addition to his parents, he was preced- ed in death by one sis- ter, Peggy Scoggins and two brothers, Bobby and Danny Scoggins. Survivors include his sister, Louise Deyton and husband, Scott of Caroleen; brother, Andrew Scoggins and wife, Janice of Bostic; niece, Melissa Scoggins and two neph- ews, Timothy Hudson and Anthony Hudson and wife, Victoria. A memorial ser- vice was conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Billy Poe Jones officiating. WILLIAM SMITH Mr. William E. "Bill" Smith, 99, of Mooresboro, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2015. He was born on November 22, 1915 in Randolph County, NC, the son of the late Millard E. Smith and Blanche Moffit Smith. He served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II in Germany, France, Holland and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a master electrician working as an Electrical Superintendent during the construction of numerous plants in the southeast. He also worked at PPG and retired from Armour and Company. He was always willing to help family, friends, and neigh- bors with needed electri- cal projects. He was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was preced- ed in death by his wife, Ethel Jenelle "Nelle" Bostic Smith; infant son, Millard Keith Smith; brothers, Clarence and Fletcher Smith; sis- ters, Emma Smith Key, Nancy Smith Page, Jean Smith Spureill and Dixie Smith Harris. He is sur- vived by his sons, Steve Smith and wife Helen of Mooresboro, Gary Smith and wife Sandy of Boiling Springs, and Vaughn Smith and wife Karen of Shelby; grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife Amanda, Melissa Jones and husband Chad, Kim Chapman and husband Ben, Kelly Martin and hus- band Jason, Keri Bryant and husband Billy, Billy Smith, and Jenny Moore and husband Adam; sev- enteen great grandchil- dren. He was a beloved hus- band, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished the Lord and his church. He was an avid golfer after retire- ment. Funeral services were held at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Frazier, Rev. Ken Klingler, and Rev. Buddy Morehead officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. YEATON Mae Irene Bergner was born December 24, 1923 at Chamberlain to Louis and Alma (Arp) Bergner. She attended Bode Elementary School and graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1941. After high school, Mae attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD. On December 8, 1941, Mae was united in marriage to Bernard Yeaton. They made their home in Seattle, WA. Mae moved home with her parents when Bernard enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 16, 1943. Upon Bernard's discharge from the Navy on December 10, 1945, they made their home at Chamberlain where Bernard went into partner- ship with Mae's father and brother on the farm. They spent many years on the farm where Mae raised her children. On May 5, 1999, Bernard passed away and Mae remained in her home on the family farm until 2010 when she moved in with her son Kenny. In May of 2013, Mae became a resident of Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain. Mae and Bernard spent many winters in Arizona as well as extended visits to Seattle where some of their siblings resided. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to places such as Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Altar Society in Chamberlain, the Ladies Progressive Circle Club, Town and Country Club, and the Hi Neighbor Club. Her hobbies included readin g, sewing, gift card making, gardening, and all kinds of crafts. Mae passed away on January 26, 2015 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain at the age 91 years. Gratefully shar- ing her life are her children Denny Yeaton and wife Kay of Mesa, AZ; Mary Kay Rhodes of NC, and Kenny Yeaton and wife Lynette of Chamberlain, SD; daughter-in-law Karen Yeaton of Oacoma, SD; grandchildren Todd Yeaton, Debbie (Steve) McWhorter, Doug Hoffer, Adam (Audrey Lane) Bely, Amy (Nick Yanney) Bely, Tim (Malerie) Yeaton, Clara (Calvin Nephew) Yeaton, Rebecca Yeaton, and Grace Yeaton; great grandchildren Bethany Yeaton, Spencer Yeaton, Jacob McWhorter, Zach McWhorter, Matthew McWhorter, Jason (Shalace) Bell, Justin (Amber) Bell, Noah Hoffer, Adam Bely, Jr., Ariel Bely, Arian Bely, Kylie Anders, Rylee Snyder, Emmitt Yeaton; great great grand- daughter Haylah Bell; a sister Doris Crimmin of WA; sister-in-laws Evelyn Sauvage of WA and Patti Oshie of WA; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Bernard; sons Randy and Gregg; granddaughter Lori; two great grandsons Grant and Christopher; son-in-law Gregg Rhodes; a brother Roy Bergner; and two sisters Alice Tait and Carol Bergner. Funeral services were held at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in Grandview Cemetery at rural Chamberlain. Hickey Funeral Chapel is serving the family. GRAYSON CHRISTOPHER MARTIN Grayson Christopher Martin Jr. age 91, of Forest City passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2014. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, husband of the late Doris Martin and son of the late Nimmie Carpenter and Grayson Christopher Martin Sr. Left to cherish his memory are his sons C. Shannon Martin and wife Brenda of Rock Hill SC, and Michael J. Martin and wife Dorma Lee of Salisbury NC, grand- children Jeffrey Ross Martin and wife Christy, Kimberly Martin Bridges, and Brian Richard Martin and wife Natalie, great grandchildren Tyler Bridges, Garrett Bridges, and Braxton Martin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Julius Victor Martin, JD Martin, Wayne Martin, and Evelyn Dycus. Services were held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Courtney and Dr. James Whitlow officiating. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. LUCILLE FOWLER HODGE Lucille Fowler Hodge age 87 went home to be with the Lord on Friday January 30, 2015. A native of Polk County she was a home- maker, former Sunday School Teacher and was of the Baptist Faith Left to cherish her memory are her chil- dren Shirleen Hodge of Rutherfordton, NC and Sheila Bridges of Winston-Salem, NC and one grandson Paul Allen Bridges of Winston- Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Paul Hodge and eleven brothers and sis- ters. A private burial will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church Cemetery. IRENE HAMRICK LIPSCOMB Irene Hamrick Lipscomb, age 88, of Rutherfordton passed away Thursday January 29, 2015. She was a native of Rutherford County and a member of Gilkey Baptist Church. Mrs. Lipscomb was the daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Ball Hamrick, widow of the late Bill Lipscomb and sister of the late Fern Conner, Nancy Houser, Benny Hamrick and Steve Hamrick. Left to cherish her memory are two sons Ralph and Randy Yessler; sister Betty Brooks; brother Danny Hamrick; grandchildren; Samantha Hall, Travis Yessler and Reagan Yessler; great grand children; Brooklyn Draughn, Mark Banks, Shoneci Collins, Deion Hall, Ja' Kya Hall, Johanni Ortiz, Joaquin Ortiz, Julian Mills, Kaylee Yessler, Braxton Yessler and Ava Yessler; great great grandchildren Devin O' Berry, Bronx O' Berry, Mark Banks III, Mason Banks and Marsean De Shields. Funeral services were held at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Hamrick and Rev. Don Brooks offici- ating. Burial was held in Spindale City Cemetery.
