The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center is pleased to announce that the Cleveland County SilverArts/Senior Games program for senior adults age 50 and better is celebrating 30 years of healthy aging! We are inviting all senior adults within the Cleveland County area to come out this year and participate in this wonderful program that's designed to promote healthy aging, physical activity, involvement, and fellowship. SilverArts is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to express their creativity through the Heritage, Literary, Visual, and Performing Arts. Through this dynamic pro- gram, there are numerous ways to utilize your gifts, talents, and skills through painting, dancing, singing, comedy, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, writing, basket weaving, quilting and so much more! By participating, your artwork will be judged and could win a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place award. All 1st and 2nd place winners qualify to enter their artwork in the North Carolina State Senior Games competi- tion in Raleigh, North Carolina. There is an $8 early bird reg- istration fee through February 17th. After this date, the fee increases to $10 and the final deadline date to register is February 24th. The Literary Arts deadline is February 10th. The SilverArts Display will be open for public viewing March 6th – 12th. The Performing Arts Follies Senior Talent Showcase will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $3 and the public is invited to attend. The Senior Games program appeals to all senior athletes age 50 and better. We offer over 50 sporting events including Discus, Shot Put, Tennis, Badminton, Billiards, Pickle Ball, Swimming, Basketball Shooting, Football Throw, Horseshoes, and lots more! Senior Games is a year-round health promotions program that has proven to be effective in slowing down the aging process, keeping seniors healthier resulting in fewer Doctor's visits, and fewer entering into nurs- ing homes and maintaining their independence through fit- ness, fellow- ship, family, and friend- ship. Senior Games will be held April 13th – 17th. Opening Ceremonies will be held at Spangle r Stadium on the campus of Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Monday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m. The early bird registra- tion fee is $10 through March 17th. After this date, the fee increases to $15 and the final dead- line date to register is March 24th. Deadlines are strictly enforced. If you are interested in participating in either or both SilverArts and Senior Games, registra- tion packets may be picked up at the Front Desk.
