10 | January/February 2015 publisher's note H ealth and fi tness... it's something we all try to sched- ule at the beginning of a new year. I am still trying to get back to the gym, but have been unsuccessful in that pursuit. is year 2015 I will be better. I have lost a lot of weight and have been good at keeping it off . Also this issue features a faith column about the Christian perspective of yoga. Years ago I was against yoga because of the new age movement in that area. Howev- er, I started yoga last year with a Christian teacher and I love the exercise it teaches and have a diff erent view of it now. It has helped me tremendously with my balance. is past year I crossed over a major threshold. I turned 65 and now I am on Medicare. is event caused me to have great refl ections of life and the world around me. God has blessed me and my family and our business, CityView. For this I am grateful. Fayetteville lost some great citizens as well as friends of mine this past year. Here are some refl ections on a few of them: Jack Clark was a friend from childhood and his family started Clark's Sporting Good and thrived here for many years. Jack contracted kidney cancer 30 years ago and survived with it for a long time. My son, Bob, was not so fortunate as he lasted three years a er discovering the disease. Jack was very kind and helpful in talks with Bob about their fate. Joe Hollinshed, a local building supply entrepreneur who was my scout master. He was loved by everyone due to his wonderful personality and warmth. Jane Jernigan, wife of Glenn Jernigan, was very active in community aff airs and was a mentor to my wife in the Junior League 35 years ago. Dr. Bill Jordan a local urologist that established a company here in Fayetteville that set the mark across the United States for lithotripsy procedures. He was a pio- neer and a genius. He was a friend of mine for 30 years. Bill was one of Fayetteville's most generous citizens with too many projects to mention here. Twenty years ago when some local people started the Care Clinic, I approached Bill and he donated $25,000 as one of the fi rst major contributors to get it off the ground. Scott McFadyen, a local music store owner, who raised three fi ne young men that are major contributors to the community of Fayetteville. Virginia McFadyen Rose, the mother of those men, also died this past year. Jim McRae was a local attorney with a family history that goes back hundreds of years in Fayetteville. I can't remember when I didn't know him. Bob Stapleton was a retired veterinarian that had a love for the game of golf and we had many a discussion about our shared love. M. J. Weeks was a local real estate developer and entrepreneur. He served Fay- etteville well for 50 years as a leader in business and commerce and charitable caus- es. M. J. and I won a two day golf event together 35 years ago and were good friends. Let's all stop and pause and thank God for the people he puts in our path every day. God Bless you and have a successful 2015. Funeral Service & crematory 910.484.8108 610 Ramsey Street H ank S tew art facebook.com/cityviewnc
