Emory, age 84, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Born March 4, 1930 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was a son of the late Vernon Emory & Esmer Hawkins Emory. Howard served in the US Army during the Korean War. In his earlier days, he was an avid hunter & fisher- man. He was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church. In addition to his par- ents, he was preced- ed in death by his wife, Gertrude "Cooter" Vickers Emory & one brother, Max Emory. Survivors include 2 sons, Roger Emory of Augusta, Georgia & Joey Emory & wife, Annette of Rutherfordton; 3 daugh- ters, Pam Rush & hus- band, Henry, Gail Guffey & husband, Howard, Judy Odell & husband, Joe all of Forest City; 2 sisters, Mary Lou West of Greenhill & Ethel Ann Emory of Forest City. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren & one great-great-granddaugh- ter. Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Wayne Toney officiat- ing. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memorial Park with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. MARGIE LEE CRUMP HAMRICK Margie Lee Crump Hamrick, age 83, of Forest City, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014. Born February 8, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, she was a daughter to the late Harvey & Virginia Crump. Margie was a homemaker & a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In addition to her par- ents, she was preced- ed in death by her hus- band of 53 years, James Howard Hamrick; son, Doug Hamrick; daughter, Marilyn Green; 2 brothers, Jerry & Richard Crump; 2 sisters, Fay & Joyce Ann Crump & one grandson, Derek Hamrick. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Brenda Hamrick of Forest City; 2 brothers, Harry & Paul Crump; sister, Brenda Mathis all of Lincolnton; 4 grandchildren, James Green, Matt Green, Billy Hamrick, Leann Hamrick; 4 great-grandchildren, which includes Alexis & Makayla Hamrick & broth- er-in-law, Kenneth Greene of Lawndale. Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Interment fol- lowed in the church cem- etery. ROBERT "BOB" HEFLIN Robert Everett "Bob" Heflin, 74, of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. A native of Warren, VA, he was the son of the late Richard Everett and Mary Frances Atkins Heflin. He was a retired butcher. Left to cherish Bob's memory is his two daugh- ters, Jodi Raborne of Port Orange, FL and Michelle Greene of Ellenboro; 3 grandchildren, Cameron Raborne, Charlie Greene and Larry Greene; 2 great grandchildren, Ava Michelle Greene and Charlie Greene Jr. No formal services are planned at this time. Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the Heflin family. PERRY ISAAC HUTCHINS Perry Isaac Hutchins, age 68, of Ellenboro, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014. Born September 1, 1946 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Tildon Hutchins & Mary Getty Hutchins. Perry worked for Stonecutter Mills & General Fireproofing for several years & then worked with his wife as a house parent for the Baptist Children's Home in Thomasville for 17 years. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church & enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 3 sis- ters & a grandson, Darmie Langley. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth Hutchins; 7 children, Valerie Lail & husband, Tim of Ellenboro, Robbie Hutchins & wife, Jennifer of Mauldin, SC, Heath Maybin & wife, Melissa of Rutherfordton, Martha Gordon & husband, Steve of Bakersville, Cindy Heatherly & husband, Buck of Hendersonville, Roger Barnette also of Hendersonville & Theresa Barnette of Rutherfordton; 2 brothers, John Hutchins & Clarence Hutchins & wife, Sandy all of Caroleen; 2 sis- ters, Georgia Owens of Ellenboro & Betty Baynard of Bostic. He is also sur- vived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren & a host of nieces and neph- ews. LAWRENCE KEEVER Lawrence Keever, age 71, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Born March 6, 1943 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Jesse Fidel Keever and Myrtle Susan Smith Keever. Lawrence worked as a truck driver for Thompson Contractors most of his life and enjoyed driving race cars and watching NASCAR. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers. Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Keever and David Keever and wife, Kim all of Forest City; step- son, Derek Keever and wife, Seiko of Shanghai, China; four brothers, George Keever and wife, Judy of Spindale, Grover Keever and wife, Johnnie, Claude Keever and wife, Geneva and Steve Keever and wife, Donna all of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Vivian Pierce and hus- band, Jackie of Wilson, NC and Eileen Gillespie of Myrtle Beach, SC; two granddaughters, Aubry Keever and Cheyenne Keever; three step-grand- children, Bradley, Heather and Ellye Keever and a host of nieces and neph- ews. Funeral services were conducted at Gray's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Bryan Ezell offi- ciating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. LES GODFREY John Leslie Godfrey, 74, of Hickory, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2014. Leslie was born on December 20, 1940, in Spindale, to James Monroe Godfrey and Etta Clyde Huffstickler Godfrey. A native of Spindale, NC, Leslie "Les" was retired from the auto body services and sales. He was also a Mason and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his siblings Etta Montieth, Irene Godfrey, James (JC) Godfrey, Eugene Godfrey, Barbara LaFrank, Modene Wyatt and ReAnn Adams. Left to cherish his memory are his 3 chil- dren, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchil- dren: Scott Godfrey of Boiling Springs, SC; his son Dustin Jones and wife Brandee, their two chil- dren, Emma and Blake of Rutherfordton, NC, Jennifer (Ginger) Godfrey of Jacksonville, FL; Karen Harshman and husband Dale Harshman and his beloved granddaughter, Rachel Ann Harshman of Hickory, NC. He is also survived by his brothers and sis- ters; Pete and Catherine Godfrey of Spindale, NC, Charles Godfrey of Las Cruces, NM,. Curtis and Julie Godfrey of Germanton, NC, Russell and Jean Godfrey of Inman, SC, Linda Godfrey Arrowood and husband Charles of Rutherfordton, NC, brothers in law, Jack Monteith and Jimmy Adams of Moore, IN. MICHAEL EUGENE CARVER Mr. Michael Eugene Carver age 62 went home to be with The Lord on Sunday December 21, 2014. Michael was a native of Rutherford County and retired from the U.S. Army. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sigrid Mahkorn Carver of Germany, two sons Kevin Carver and wife Julia of Germany and Michael Carver of Germany, two grandchil- dren Kevin Carver and Sophie Carver both of Germany; sisters- Betty Burns of Winston-Salem, NC; Bonnie Swofford of Chesnee, SC; Geraldine Searcey of Rutherford County, NC and Dorothy Williams and husband Larry of Charlotte, NC; brothers William Brantley Carver, Jr. and wife Judy of Chesnee, SC and Hubert A. Carver and wife Sandy of Rutherford County, NC. He was pre- ceded in death by his parents William Brantley Carver and Pearlie Hooper Carver and his brother Raymond Glenn Carver. A graveside service was held at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
