Here are some tips from the American Diabetes Association: • Be sure your ¿ ngertip is warm and pink. Wash your hands in warm water or shake your hands to get the blood into the ¿ ngertips. • Use an adjustable lancet device to get a drop without poking too deeply. • Poke on the sides of your ¿ ngers, not the tips. • Gently squeeze a blood drop from your ¿ ngertip. • Use skin cream to keep your ¿ ngers soft. You may also want to share these reminders with your child: • Always keep the lancets to yourself. You don't want anyone to get stuck by accident. • Never let anyone use your lancet device or your lancets. • Talk with your diabetes educator about how to throw away the used lancets safely. • Keep all diabetes-care supplies away from younger children. —Source: American Diabetes Association Help Your Child Live (Well!) with Diabetes ----- Diabetes and Kids ----- STORAGE BUILDINGS "Our Prices are Worth The Drive" OTHER SIZES AVAILABLE Ace Portable Buildings 864-487-8686 222 West Third Street, Gaffney, SC 8x12 ....................... $1095 10x12 ..................... $1295 10x16 ..................... $1495 10x20 ..................... $1795 12x20 ..................... $1995 12x24 ..................... $2495 M-F 9:00-6:00 Sat. 9-3 SPC0016949 Bring Any Competitor's Ad & We'll Beat It! This grant will enable the museum to provide free admission on special Fridays each month throughout 2015. Starting Jan. 9, KidSenses will welcome all visitors, free of charge, to visit the museum from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The museum will be free the fi rst Friday of each following month throughout the year. On each "Fantastic Friday" all visitors will be able to participate in free, fun, exciting hands-on learning programs about science and energy. Programs will focus on the theme of renewable energy. • Watt's Current? will introduce children to the basic principles of electricity, by having them participate in a fun, interactive, life-sized circuit activity. • Power it Up will introduce children to the different ways that electricity is generated, and help them discover how energy makes its way to their home. • Energy Quest will introduce children to machinery that is used to generate electricity. • Working together in small groups, children will build Squishy Circuits using conductive play dough. The Squishy Circuits will power LED's, fans, motors and speakers. • Children will also construct fully functional miniature Wind Turbines. These programs will take place throughout the day, led by the museum's talented informal science educators. Willard Whitson, executive director, KidSenses Children's Museum, said, "We are very grateful to Duke Energy for making this important program possible. This generous gift helps ensure that access to KidSenses Museum is available to everyone. Both Duke Energy and KidSenses are committed to improving the lives of families in our region. This program will introduce the museum to new audiences and provide information about sustainable energy production and use." "The KidSenses Museum is such an asset for Downtown Rutherfordton and all of Rutherford County," said Craig DeBrew, Duke Energy's district manager for Rutherford County. "Duke Energy is proud to support the Fantastic Fridays Program and we urge families from across the region to take advantage of this wonderful hands-on learning experience." Having recently celebrated its tenth year of operation, KidSenses Children's Museum has reached over a half-million individuals during the last decade. Over 35,00 0 children experience our dynamic outreach programs each year. The "Fantastic Fridays" free admission program is entirely funded by a grant from Duke Energy.
