Mental health experts will tell you that the holidays are some of the most diffi cult times for people who suffer from depression. It is possible in the middle of all of the hustle and bustle of the season to feel emotionally let down. So how can we help ourselves? We must be careful not to place unreal expectations on the people and the events that take place during this time of year. In our world of animation and "happy endings", we sometimes want the "perfect" experience or expect people to respond a certain way. We must understand that even with all the planning to buy the perfect gift or in preparing for a special event, we cannot control people's reactions or those little mishaps that might occur. We also must understand that no matter how wonderful the day may be, it will come to an end. While preparing is good and the excitement of the holiday is wonderful, we must purpose to enjoy the people and the moments of Christmas not just the event. One of the greatest aspects of Christmas is the beauty of making special memories. We can always make something good out of a bad situation. Thus proving, the power of memory is about love and family. When the last present has been opened, the holiday meal has been devoured and the last guest has departed, we can sit back and realize that it was truly a blessed time to have those you love together again. Christmas is truly about giving of ourselves with no strings attached.
