In fact, it can make it dif- fi cult for you to enjoy any moment of your life, because not having proper use of your back can make it impossible to even move out of your chair, up and down the stairs, or even to get out of bed every day. For those who suffer from disci- tis, not being able to go to work, play with your children, or do the activities that you used to enjoy can change your life signifi cantly. When you're suffering from in- fl ammation impacting your spine and causing discitis, it is critical to fi nd relief as quickly as possible, and to treat the problem instead of the symptoms, homeopathic and other natural remedies may be right for you. What is Discitis? If you are suffering from discitis, you likely feel severe back pain and lack of movement. Discitis is caused by an intervertebral infec- tion; this makes it a very diffi cult condition to deal with because it can impact anywhere from just one of your spinal discs, up to impact- ing all of them. The infl ammation of discitis occurs in-between the vertebrae, and often fi lls in the small spaces between the spinal discs and the vertebrae. The in- fl ammation is refl ected in pain and an inability to move. It is impor- tant to note that discitis rarely im- pacts adults. This means that if you have children who are complaining of back pain, especially lower back pain, it is important to contact your medical provider to have the pain checked immediately and to begin helping your child recover from their infl ammation with the healing power of natural medicine. What Causes Discitis? Discitis is most often caused by an infection that may be either bacte- rial or viral in nature. Typically, it starts as a spinal infection, but this is not always the case. Discitis is most often seen in conjunction with osteomyelitis, which results in infection to the bone marrow or to the bone itself. This is diffi cult to treat and may cause great pain to you or your child. How- ever, an infection is not the only cause of discitis. Discitis may also be caused by auto immune disorders, and/or injuries that cause swelling and in- fl ammation in the spine and other places throughout the back. What are Some Symptoms of Discitis? It is important to watch for the fol- lowing symptoms, which are often the fi rst signs of discitis or an osteo- myelitis infection: pain or discom- fort in the abdomen, trouble mov- ing around, diffi culty in completing tasks such as cleaning their room or picking up toys, fever, and poor posture. Most of these symptoms are nearly always accompanied by stiffness, discomfort, or pain in the back, especially in the lower back. If you fi nd that you or your child is suffering from these symptoms, it is important to begin treating them immediately to avoid permanent damage. Children who are under the age of 10 are the most suscep- tible to suffer from discitis. If you or your child is complaining of pain and suffering that may be related to his or her back and may be the re- sult of discitis or related infections, it is important to contact a special- ized doctor immediately. What Can You Do About Discitis? When you suspect that you or your child may be suffering from disci- tis, you should immediately visit a specialized medical doctor for bone scans, blood tests, and other proce- dures that will help the doctor de- termine whether or not it is discitis or an associated infection. Proper diagnosis is critical in order to have a quick and permanent recovery. The doctor may sug- gest treatments that include changing some daily activities to help take pressure off the entire back, rest, and even a back brace to keep a prop- er posture in align- ment. In addition to treating discitis with these traditional methods, in order to have a proper healing, it is important to consider other methods such as massages or physical therapy.
