Inside Fayetteville OCTOBER 1 Blue Jean Ball This is the fifth year for this wildly popular event that raises money for the Child Ad- vocacy Center's child abuse prevention and outreach efforts. As in years past, this year's event will be held at the Highland Country Club. Children in the 4th through 8th grades are encouraged to attend with an adult and will have their own party with food, a DJ and dancing while the adults enjoy a silent auction and hors d'oeuvres in the lounge and on the terrace. OCTOBER 2 Cape Fear Botanical Gardens Heritage Festival Celebrate life at the turn of the 19th Century with activities for all ages, including barnyard animals, agricultural exhibits, old-fashioned food preparation, demonstrations and live bluegrass music. OCTOBER 7 3rd Annual Positively Pink! Women's Health Fair Kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month at Valley Regional Imaging's women's health fair. The event will be held under a vaulted tent in VRI's parking lotfrom 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will feature breast cancer screening information, giveaways and drawings. OCTOBER 8 Charity Wine Tasting Sip great wine and raise money for two great causes during this fundraiser for Fayetteville Cares and the Airborne & Special Opera- tions Museum. This is the third year the Fayetteville Wine Society has held the event and the first year for it to take place at the Museum. Over 100 wines from around the OCTOBER 20 — 29 Historic Hauntings: A Ghastly Ghost Tour Be spooked by the things you see every day on this haunted hayride around downtown Fayetteville, sponsored by the Dogwood Festival. Ghostly re-enactors and story tellers take you through historic Fayetteville's most infamous haunted locations. Event dates are October 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29. Get your tickets early! OCTOBER 11 Beginning Beekeeping Course The Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Center is offering a Beginning Beekeeping Course starting October 11 at 6:00 p.m. and continuing for six weeks. The free course covers the basic knowledge needed to get started into beekeeping to include: Equipment, honey bee biology, products of the beehive, honey bees and plants, honey bee problems and starting beehives. NOVEMBER 2 The North Carolina Governor's Conference for Women For the fifth year, more than 1,500 women from across the state will gather for dialogue, dynamic speakers, entertainment, and an interactive expo for networking, informa- tion sharing, and education on a variety of women's issues. NOVEMBER 3 — 6 45th Annual Holly Day Fair The Holly Day Fair, sponsored by the Junior League of Fayetteville, is the largest holiday gift and craft show in Eastern North Carolina and, for many, the official start to the holiday season. Each year more approxi- mately 21,000 people come to the Crown Expo Center to peruse the items offered by more than 200 vendors, many selling one-of- a-kind and handmade Christmas decorations, crafts, jewelry, clothes, toys, food specialties, household accents, and much more.
