O ver 200 alumni, along with family and friends, traveled from all over the United States to participate and enjoy themselves at the Castle during the 2014 Homecoming and capital campaign celebration events. It was one of the largest gatherings of Indiana Gammas in recent times, and based on the pictures in this newsletter, Phis across every generation had a great time. Homecoming Celebration a Success Alumni began showing up at the Castle early and were greeted at the door by undergraduate Chapter members. Coffee and donuts were provided as alumni and undergraduates mixed it up enjoying each other's company and conversation at the Chapter House throughout the morning into the early afternoon. Chapter House tours and the Indiana Gamma artifact display area was a hit. Per tradition, everyone gathered on the porch, roof, and front yard to cheer our Chariot Team to another Homecoming victory. The great room's baby grand piano got a workout, adding to a welcoming atmosphere. The undergraduates installed their loudspeakers on the front porch and played the latest rock-and-roll tunes throughout the day. Everyone on campus knew the Castle was abuzz and a happening placeā€”as it should be! Starting at 10 a.m., an outstanding brunch, thanks to Liz Diehl and Tyler Coe was served, followed by a heartfelt dedication of the soccer jersey of Brother Cary Buxton '73 by Brothers from his era. Refer to page 5 for Cary's memorial. The remainder of the morning included a surprise visit by the Butler Bulldog mascot, Trip, the Homecoming parade and undergraduate float competition, and an outstanding Legionnaire Ceremony where we inducted 10 alumni. Beginning at noon, the Phi Delt Trolley, courtesy of Brother Jack Carr Boyd '69, began shuttle service between the Chapter House and the Phi Delt tailgate party, hosted by Brother Chris Wirthwein '79 and his wife, Sally, at the Hinkle field house parking lot while the Butler Bulldogs football team took on the Jacksonville Dolphins. Capital Campaign Comes to a Close Later that evening, Brothers enjoyed a celebration for reaching our $1 million capital campaign goal. The setting for the cocktail reception was the beautiful and historic Meridian Hills Country Club hosted by Brother Phillip "Skip" Kappes '45. That evening, as your campaign chairman, I gave a state of the Chapter address and capital campaign review, followed by the donor memorial reveal and more fellowship. Highlights of the evening's remarks can be found in the Campaign Chairman Report on page 7. Thankful for Alumni Support To all of my Indiana Gamma Brothers, friends and supporters, I am happy to report that the capital campaign has come to a successful conclusion, and my job as your capital campaign chairman is done. Know that all your support and contributions were cherished, whether large or small, and each was critical in achieving our five-year plan beyond our wildest dreams. I want to personally thank Phillip "Skip" Kappes '45 and Tony Bultinck '96, who not only gave their financial treasures to the cause but also their time and talents as our legal and accounting council. Their wisdom and professional insight in their respective fields were priceless. Thanks to team member Jack Werner '79 for jumping in during key moments, and thanks to my special Band of alumni Brothers... you know who you are; you're the guys that always took my calls or accepted my lunch invitations when I needed a sanity check or to hear me out when I needed support & encouragement to help us see this to a successful end. I also want to thank Hugh Diehl '75 as my frontline buddy over the past five years. Hugh worked tirelessly as a valued part of the team on a day-to-day basis helping me execute the long-term plan that was envision for Indiana Gamma. Hugh helped us overcome obstacles and made things happen. Hugh's dedication to help us pull off our ground game, catch a few Hail Mary passes, and taking advantage of a few lucky breaks along the way cannot be underestimated. Thank you. We did it!
