I was born on a hot July afternoon–crowned a Leo with a ruby heart. I
love my birthstone. Ruby, natural red corundum, is rare, fi ery, passionate,
true, and honest: the symbol of love. Ruby is certainly my symbol and its
signifi cance has followed me throughout my life.
When I turned sixteen my mother took the ruby ring off her fi nger and
placed it on mine for my sweet 16th birthday gift. The tradition contin-
ued as I gifted this ring to my own daughter, Roxy, on her 16th birthday.
My second ruby came on another signifi cant occasion, my 40th birthday.
It was a most excellent gift: a bright red, clean, heart-shaped ruby, the gem
symbol for 40 (and 15 as well)!
Since July of 1974, when my parents began this business, I've had the
good fortune to grow up here with you. Over the last forty years, your
generosity of spirit and wisdom have guided my life. You have taught
me how to have meaningful and enduring relationships, how to raise my
daughter, and how to celebrate the cherished people in my life. For this,
and so much more, I am grateful to you. Thank you all for sharing your
hearts with me and making our fi rst 40 years a dream come true!
