Sigma Kappa 3 W e always knew the new design should pay homage to the formal room's mid-century "bones," but had no idea a recently discovered time capsule from Beta Sigma's 50th anniversary reunion would be the source for the new color palette and key design elements. Our house proudly displays all past photo composites, a few class paddles, and trophies, but sadly we have retained few scrapbooks from our past detailing events, dates, and names with tangible mementos. We felt it was important we document and preserve Beta Sigma's history and incorporate our artifacts in the new décor as a legacy to our future sisters. • The 1998 time capsule is now preserved under a glass dome, scheduled to be opened in 2048. • A 1949 Sigma Kappa dance card from Gloria Kirla Deremiah '48 inspired the aubergine and cobalt color scheme. • An eclectic collection of framed memorabilia and photographs are displayed. One photo captured the original interior of the formal living room, circa 1959. • New dove artwork adds symbolic reference to Sigma Kappa. Drop-dead gorgeous accessories add color, texture, and sparkle; however, the new window treatment made the biggest design impact, adding more natural light and retro glamour. Cinda Zimmack Terry '76, House Corporation president is a commercial interior designer for Duke Realty and brought more personal understanding to the design project. She spent countless volunteer hours searching for the perfect details, loving the final results and the new connections she made with alumnae while researching our archives. We would love to receive your stories and memorabilia to add to our collection! 1998 Time Capsule Reveals New Formal Room Design A dance card found in Beta Sigma's 50th anniversary time capsule was the inspiration for the new formal room décor. This is the beginning of a memory wall collage of memorabilia the House Corporation hopes to continue collecting for the chapter.
