ALPHA XI page 2 derby dAys rAIses More thAN $20,000 Undergraduates Appreciative of Alumni Support L ast spring, Alpha Xi completed another successful year at the University of Kansas. We saw our week-long Derby Days event raise $20,800, a little short of the total raised last year but still much greater than previous years. More than $8,000 of this total was through sorority donations and business sponsorships, while alumni and parents donated the remaining $12,800. We are thankful to the alumni who stay involved, whether that is through donations of time or money. Without you, a lot of what we accomplish would not be possible. The money raised will be donated to Folds of Honor, a non-profit foundation established by Significant Sig Major Dan Rooney '95 that provides financial aid and scholarships to children and spouses of our military men and women killed in action or wounded. UNDERGRADUATES FOCUS ON CHAPTER GPA AND NEW PLEDGE PROGRAM A lpha Xi has set many goals for this year. In the spring, our chapter finished ninth overall among fraternities in grades, with a 3.03 GPA. However, our goal moving forward is to beat the sorority average of a 3.30, while also improving our overall standing in the Greek community. We believe this is achievable through new scholarship programs that were developed during the spring semester and during the summer months. Another thing that Alpha Xi hopes to accomplish is getting into Rock Chalk Revue this upcoming year, and then winning it. We are excited to announce our partners are the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. One of Alpha Xi's largest areas of emphasis is the implementation of a new pledge program. Its focus is to increase involvement of the chapter on campus and to achieve academic success for the new pledge class. We are proud to say that the new program has been successful. By taking advantage of university events, we have seen a vast growth in freshman involvement in on-campus groups and clubs outside of Sigma Chi. We have also implemented a series of grade checks to ensure that each pledge is meeting the high scholastic standards set forth by the chapter. Balfour Award Winners The chapter would like to congratulate former Pro Consul Keaton Dorman '14 for his selection as the Kansas Province Balfour Award winner and the House Corporation for receiving the Outstanding House Corporation Award at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop. Alpha Xi was also represented at Grand Council in Chicago and the Horizons leadership program last summer. Members Attend Recruitment Seminar Last year, Alpha Xi hosted its first Mission 365 program through Sigma Chi National. Mission 365 is a two-day recruitment seminar that teaches chapters how to more effectively and efficiently recruitment potential Sigma Chis. It focuses on a dry recruitment process and measuring potential recruits against the Jordan Standard. This program has influenced Alpha Xi greatly in the early stages of this year's recruitment program. Looking forward to the pledge class of 2015, Alpha Xi will be looking to sign 28-30 pledges with an emphasis on locating out-of-state students. The recruitment process began in September, when 40 high school seniors came to the chapter house for a tour and introductions to many of the brothers. In Hoc, John Lee '16 Consul john.lee1250@yahoo.com Cameron Eggen '16, Kyle Hampton '16, John Lee '16, and Tommy McGrath'16 hang out over lunch. Chapter members listen to Drew Fennely, a Lawrence police officer, about alcohol awareness and sexual misconduct. The freshmen practice their line dancing skills with the women of Delta Gamma. Mom "Marty" Lee organized the event. Reid Leonard '15, Luke Thompson '15, and Matt Hullings '15 stop by for brunch.
