T his semester has already been an eventful one for us at Alpha Delta. From Convention to recruitment we've had a busy start but have also had some fun. Membership Tops 300 We started off the semester with 97 new members and are excited to say that we are officially one of five Gamma Phi Beta chapters with over 300 members! We were thrilled to welcome these women into the sisterhood at initiation on October 16. Officers Enjoy Convention Our seven executive board members had a wonderful time traveling to Seattle, Washington, in July with our chapter advisor, Jenn Wood, Saint Louis University '08. We were able to learn more about International Gamma Phi Beta and about each other to become a stronger executive board. Focus on Philanthropy Philanthropy weekend at the end of September raised more than $2,600 at our late-night dinner Grilled Cheese with the G Phi B's and hosting 26 fraternity teams at this year's Crescent Classic soccer tournament. Convention 2014 saw the adoption of 35 bylaw amendments. You can read more about convention 2014 in the article by Chapter President Sammy Peterson '12 below. RENOVATED LAUNDRY ROOM The HCB oversaw several major summer projects, including a renovated laundry room complete with six stackable washer and dryer units. A separate room was included for a study area. The chapter house underwent necessary exterior maintenance, including a new railing on the roof over the front door, patching and painting of rooms and sealing the driveway. BILLING POLICY CHANGES Over the summer HCB President Christy Ehrenreich '74 spearheaded an agreement with the Gamma Phi Beta Facilities Management Company (FMC). Beginning July 5, 2014, all in-house fees of room and board and out-of-house fees were invoiced directly to each collegian's Billhighway account through FMC. No longer will we be using our Columbia accounting firm to collect house bills. According to chapter Advisor Jenn Wood, Saint Louis University '08, "This is a step forward to the overall health and strength of the chapter. They assume the responsibility of collections and disciplinary issues on their own." WELCOME, NEW MEMBER CLASS Greek Town saw 1,976 women go through recruitment this year. Alpha Delta invited 97 women into membership, six over quota. We are now a member of the Gamma Phi Beta over-300 club. Of those 97, 16 are legacies, including Morgan Bond '14, the granddaughter of Alison Shafer Bond '66 and great- granddaughter of Audrey Shafer '38. Alpha Delta also welcomed Kara Bocher '14, the youngest child of Kendra Bocher, California State-Long Beach '81, the associate executive director of Gamma Phi Beta International Sorority. Alpha Delta sends our congratulations to Danielle Roden '09, who is serving as a CLC this year. Read more about her journey on page 2.
