Donations of non-perishable food can be dropped off in green plastic bins located inside the entrances of the Courthouse and other county buildings. Glass jars will not be accepted. Suggested food items include plastic jars of peanut butter, jellies and pasta sauces, canned meats, vegetables, fruits and sturdy bags or boxes of rice, pasta, dried beans and grits. Donations will go toward the Fayetteville Urban Ministry and the Salvation Army. Call 437-1921 for more information. co.cumberland.nc.us County Seeks Donations For Food Drive The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is offering flu shots to children and adults. Free flu shots are available to uninsured children six months to 18 years old. Individuals with insurance may receive a flu shot at no out-of-pocket cost if they have Medicare, Medicaid, North Carolina Health Choice or Blue Cross Blue Shield. Hours at the Health Department's Immunizations Clinic are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday until 7 p.m. Friday service after noon is available by appointment only until 5 p.m. The Health Department is located at 1235 Ramsey St. For more information, call the Immunizations Clinic at 910-433-3633. Other ways to prevent the flu include: • Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue and discarding the tissue properly. • Washing hands frequently with soap and water. • Staying home when you are sick. Stay home until you are fever free for at least 24 hours. Flu Shots Available At Health Dept. CORRECTION In the Oct. 28 edition of Up & Coming, the Cumberland Matters page contained incorrect information about the Wilkes Road Treatment and Processing Facility. The fee for clean wood and small tree stumps is $1.85 per 100 pounds, or $37 per ton. Tree stumps are $1.85 per 100 pounds.
